Adventure Path Rise of the Runelords - Strange incidents in Sandpoint: a goblin raid, shadows of the past, a serial killer...what other perils do the brave Sandpoint Saviours have to master?
Laughing as the last creature falls, Emil smiles and then walks over to the side tunnel. [b]"Ok Bigguns I will go scout some more! Be back in a bit!"[/url]
With that he slinks off into the darkness, looking to see where the tunnel goes.
Nieve turns away as Harry mauls the second creature; even if it was clearly hostile and out to draw their blood, it made him feel uncomfortable to watch any life being snuffed like that. When Emil decides to sneak further into the tunnel, he grows a little anxious. "Be careful," he calls after the kobold.
@ Nieve judging from Elyn's behaviour the creatures are surely no animals. They must have been magically created.
@ Emil:
You follow the tunnel for about 30 feet where it slightly widens into a small room. The original purpose of this chamber remains unclear, but large mounds of rubble lie strewn on its floor. The walls and floor of the room are entirely made of a very smooth, light-colored stone that was not shaped by tools, it rather looks like it was shaped with a giant smoothing plane. There is also a door that leads further north.
Harry looks at the dead bodies at his feet and shrugs, "No idea, but I don't think they will be surrendering to you Sir Karlan, so we might skip the part where we ask, if you please"
Emil glances around at the rubble, picks at it for a moment and shrugs. He then examines the door, and then without thinking grabs the handle and opens it just a peek.
Stealth Check to Open Door quietly - 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
DM:
If he sees nothing, he will continue to sneak down past the door.
Stealth Check - 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
If he sees something, he will close the door and rush back to his friends.
The newly discovered room to the east is dominated by a red marble statue of a strinkingly beautiful, yet at the same time monstriusly enraged woman, whose stony expression is twisted in fury.
The woman wears flowing robes, and her long hair is held back from her face by an intricate headdress of hooks and blades. In her left she carries a large book, the face which is inscribed with a seven pointed star. Her right hand holds a glittering metal and ivory ranseur.
Knowledge History DC 35 - don't ask me -:
The statue shows Alaznist, one of the seven ancient Runelords of Thassilon. Her domain was wrath.
Go go impossible knowledge check!1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27Holy crap that is close. Kinda.
As they get a glimpse of the eastern room, Nieve is immediately taken aback by the statue - and the quality of the craftsmanship. "That is...beautiful. And intense."
He peers into the room. "There appears to be a stairway over there... I... I don't like the feel of this place. First horrible creatures and then this statue?"
"I think that must be a statue of a girl I met in Riddleport this one time, of course thats the expression she had the next day when I thanked her for her company and said I'd be on my way"
"Speaking of Riddleport, Mr Nieve, this place reminds me of it well. Take no care for its inhabitants, keep your blade handy, and don't bother getting too caught up in moral considerations"
Harry wanders over to the statue...
"Her right hand holds a glittering metal and ivory ranseur". Show piece or real piece worth money? :p

"Remind me to bring Brodert Quink down here soemtime when thigns are a bit less hazardous." Karlan said looking around. "I think these were the runelord ruins he was mentioning to me a few days earlier."
Seeing everyone being enamored with the statue, Emil sneaks off towards the left heading to D1, Stealth Check 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 to see if he can see anything down that way. He goes until he hits a door or until he sees an enemy, at which point he will return to the group.
This place is strange. I wonder if there are any good stories about this place...
@ All: After you have searched the room and gave the statue some admiring glances, you also notice a door at the northern end of the room.
The ranseur is in fact a piece of real value-but would you steal from such an infuriated girl?
@ Emil: As you sneak northwards, you come to the pile of rubble I mentioned earlier. Upon climbing on it, you notice that the rubble was also the back wall of a small room, or rather a cell. Since it's northern end is shut close with a prison door.

"That works for me. I'm not entirely sure what we're seeing down here. We came here for a group of goblins waiting on allies not." Karlan made a sweeping gesture. "This. We should take a great deal of care."
"Agreed. Mind you they seem to die fast enough, though I can only imagine how nasty it could turn out if they got a hold on us and how bloody and messy the final moments might be, so lets stick tight and not give 'em a chance"

"Also, tht tower above us that's supposed to be lighthouse is actually a watchtower according to the sage in town. That means this place would have to be a fortress. Fortresses have defenses. I think you get where I'm going with this."
The large chamber was obviously once a prison, as testified by the nearly two dozen cells that line the room's perimeter. A rickety wooden platform overlooks the room, with two flights of stairs descending to the prison floor ten feet below. A five-foot wide wooden walkway runs from the northern edge of the platform to a passageway to the east.
Since you told me, you watch out for traps, I will roll necessary rolls.
At first sight the chamber is empty, yet after entering it, you notice the bodies of two sinspawns lying below the plattform. It appears they were dancing a waltz of death: They lie in a pool of blood and gore and both have clawed open the back of the other one and bitten at the other's face...not a nice sight, yet, you are happy that they killed each other instead of you.
Since you told me, you watch out for traps, I will roll necessary rolls.
Reckon a Rogue should earn his keep :p Just bear in mind I dont get the 'Level bonus' for being a Rogue, just a straight roll. Trade off of having the Thugs awesome rockstar skillz
Harry moves forward with Thumper, trying to peer into the cells from the walkway on the very distant chance there might be someone trapped down here and still alive.
Noticing that the others are pressing north rather than in his direction, Nieve hurriedly walks over to them to provide light. When he sees the large room and the platform, he takes half a step backwards."Is that wooden platform safe?"
Harry has already stepped onto them before Nieve finishes his question. "Do be careful, Mr. Harry."
"Two of whatever those things are Mr Nieve, seem to have turned on each other, can only hope that is a good sign, little bit of mutiny helping us is a fine thing"
"I would not like to get near one of them while they were peckish, I'm going to go take a closer look."
Kanyk moves slowly down the stairs, bow still drawn and edges closer to the two mutilated things in their pool of blood. He crouches down next to them to examine them a bit closer and try to get an idea for how long they've been dead.
Not sure what the roll would be, so perception and survival Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Maaaaan.. those are some truly dreadful rolls
"Emil, you any good at drawing? Be a good idea for someone to do a sketch of these monsters and we might be able to ask someone more knowledgeable to identify them."
I posted this in the HoL ooc... but since we just got this thread up, I'll put it here instead.
I'm also going to be gone this weekend, I just found out. A friend offered me a free ticket and ride to a music festival this weekend really last minute and I can't really refuse. I'll be back on Tuesday, and will be around for another 12 hours or so.
Yeah off work til 6 June, but no strenuous activiy til at least the end of June. A bit disappointed as I was supposed to have a great activity coming up, and I also had a few sporting events to compete in.
Sort of gutted about it really...if you'll pardon the pun.
The trip was a slog into the cold cold winter in five weeks, carrying heavy loads and a fair way from proper help for almost three weeks, and the sports involve a lot of body contact, not really a good idea :)
Kirk is curious about the magical dagger we found, and once it's revealed he'll probably ask for it if it's useful at all.
Bonzo will continue helping to reel in Kyren, as will Donna, but he doesn't have any immediate concerns other than that. Donna, however, really wants to smash something to oblivion with her new hammer.
S'mores! 2 faves- use those dark chocolate topped cookies instead Hersheys and graham crackers or go all american with melted marshmallows on Oreo cookies : P
Sorry I've disappeared over the last few days. Got an exam this afternoon and I disconnected my network cable to stop myself getting distracted. I freaking hate revision.

Hi Zyren,
Have you thought about how the Tzarek tournament is going to work? When I created it as a skill for Kyren I invested 1 rank in it as a profession and made it a class skill for him based on intelligence. Kyren is +7 (+1 rank, +3 class skill, +3 Int). I certainly have not play tested this idea, but I was thinking about three phases to each game. Opening, Middle and Endgame. Each phase of the game gets a Tzarek skill check. Each check is rolled opposed by my opponent's roll. For the opening, every three points over my opponent's skill check grants me +1 bonus on my roll for the middle game. Likewise, every three points over my opponents roll in the middle game grants a +2 bonus for the endgame. Ultimately, the winner of the endgame is considered the winner of the game. This does put a lot of weight to the endgame, but it may be very exciting. The one thing I am not sure about is how to add the wager portion of the game. Should the stakes change as the game progresses, or simply keep the money out until a final winner is determined at the end? Feel free to do what you want, but these are just some ideas. Let me know if you have some other ideas.
LOL yeah, umm might be a bit underequipped for that kind of crazy :p
dmz:
Yeah he's been pretty busy with his study of late, and not a lot of game time etc... we were due for a tabletop session this weekend, now cancelled of course as I got a bit waylaid! I am feeling a lot better already, just the incisions are a bit uncomfortable, and getting used to eating as I was nil by mouth (no food or water) for four days as they flushed my system so just eating slowly and lightly
If its handy, can we get a breakdown of the unidentified loot so that we know what is still outstanding later? Just in summary format. I think there are a few items we have no idea about from the Count as well as possibly earlier?
I assumed Vic levelled up, so will do up the stats.
I have put a few skill points into he developing more along the Courtesan aspect (Proff:Courtesan) and (Know:Nobility) to reflect her growing understanding of matters of State etc.
I read the UM guide, and although I did like some of the stuff it doesn't really fit. Deception is still really where it is at for her so I saw no need to change.
On the other hand the party might find themselves more...gifted by Fortune...or is it the 'Devils Luck'? eh Solaric?
