There seems to be some variation when it comes to interpreting the rules on applying GM credit to PCs that are 'locked' in either a play-by-post game or a multi-session game (e.g. module/AP chapter). If possible, it would be great to have it clarified so there's no ambiguity in future.

Need clarification of page 31 in Guide V4.3
GM credit and characters in PbP games
GM Credit and Modules
There are a couple of relevant excerpts from the GtPFSOP:
Since sanctioned modules and Adventure Paths are multi-session events, Pathfinder Society characters may not be used in other Pathfinder Society events until they receive a Chronicle sheet for the sanctioned content.
You must apply Chronicle sheets in the order they are received. The only exception is when you hold a higher-tier Chronicle for a lower-tier character.
However, neither of these are directly aimed at PBP play. This leaves a few questions:
1) Is it legal to assign a GM credit chronicle to a PC of an appropriate level that is locked in a part-completed PFS game? (e.g. a tier 1-5 chronicle to a locked 2nd level PC)
2) If the answer to (1) is 'yes', when is the GM credit applied?
A. Immediately, so that rewards (prestige, gold etc.) are available for use by the PC within the game in progress?
B. At the end of the game being played, but before the chronicle for that played game is applied?
C. After the game being played is finished and the chronicle for it is applied?
3) Is it legal to assign a higher-level chronicle to a PC currently locked in a game, and hold it to be applied at a later time? (e.g. a tier 3-7 chronicle to a locked 2nd level PC)
a) Does this extend to pregen credit?
Obviously if someone can provide a reference to a definitive statement on this, or confirmation this is already in the process of being addressed (e.g. on the VC private boards), then feel free to ignore this request.

My current operating assumption is that the answer to 1 is "no", although before I realized that I did it once (a couple of years ago). Assuming a "no" answer is safest, and the most direct interpretation of the rules.
That being said, I'd love to see a rules change, or a "clarification" specifically for GM credit being applied to PCs that are currently locked in a PbP game. My preferred answer would be option 2c is legal, and 3 is legal, for GM credit for a character currently locked in a PbP game.
(I would not want to see option 2a made legal. That just muddies the waters and confuses things for PbP games. GM credit can happen "whenever", so 2c can make a lot of sense in-world. However, 2a means that somehow the character all of a sudden had this side experience in the middle of what would normally be a single-session scenario.)

2a would also have the chance of leveling the PC out of legality for the game he is involved in, like applying module credit to a 2nd level PC being played through the Confirmation.
So, likely, 1 would be a "No." because your PC could perma-die during the game.
If 1 gets a "Yes", I agree that 2c is the best option for how to handle it.
3 should be a "Yes.", same for higher level pregen credit, as long as it is defined as being applied at the level of the pregen, not as pregen credit respeced for 1st level application.

I used to be that way, but then I met him face-to-face. Amazing how that tones down the disagreements. (Speaking of which... how long until PaizoCon again? )
I have met him too, quite a few times, that is why I post in jest.
Off subject
PazioCon 2015 will be Memorial Weekend, Friday, May 22 - Monday May, 25th.
Still not a fan of Conventions running on Holidays since it forces me to take Leave on days I would have had off anyway. I am Required to take leave on holidays when I leave the local area.

Yup. Text doesn't allow you to see tone or body language. And as such it can make you seem like an jerk. Add in the tone and body language, and it often reverses that opinion.

So the next question is what do you do if you did exactly what was asked in question 1 because you didn't realize there was a rule against it?
I have a character currently in a pbp game that started around the beginning of the year, but applied two GM credit chronicles to that PC from a convention I recently attended.

How recent was the convention? You could email the organizer and let them know you made a mistake. They may change the character number it's reported to. I don't think I would wait until you know if your character dies or not to do that, though. You could also ask them to just remove the character number entirely, so it's reported that you didn't take a chronicle sheet for those sessions. That way you could run the scenarios again later and still get a chronicle for them.
Otherwise, do you have a reason to think your character might die? PC death is generally pretty rare, so you could just leave things as is and take your chances.

So what happens if the locked PC dies? The reason I started looking is because I started to wonder what would happen in this case as you can't apply a chronicle to a dead PC.
Same thing that happens with any dead PC. You take his sheet and ALL of the chronicles attached to him, seal in the memorial envelope, and move on with your gaming.
