Belligerent Shield wrote: This +1 animated bashing heavy steel shield rattles in anticipation during battle. When loosed into the air to defend its wearer, the belligerent shield attacks as well as defends. Each round starting the round after animation, the shield makes a single shield bash attack against a foe of its wearer's choice within the wearer's reach. This works as a standard shield bash attack using the wearer's normal attack bonus with the shield, except that the wearer retains the shield bonus to AC, and while the shield's attack is treated as an off-hand attack, the wearer does not take off-hand penalties on her own attacks unless she is fighting with two weapons herself. If the wearer has any feats or abilities that benefit shield bashing attacks, they apply to attacks made by the belligerent shield. Handy Haversack:

Rosaline was born to a minor noble family in Taldor as the middle child of a large pack. Her father was a knight, his father before him had been a knight. Her mother was a knight, her mother before her had been a knight. So it was of little wonder that Rosa also wanted - aspired - to be a knight. She spared with her brothers and sisters and with practice soon could beat most of them. As her parents and their retainers taught the art of war - Rosa absorbed like a sponge. When she was old enough, she was sent away to serve as a squire for a prestigious knightly order.
There was but one problem - temper. Being a knight was not only about martial capacity or tactical thinking but also of honour, tact and chivalry. Concepts, all things considered, Rosa understood well and held high herself. But her temper, that was something else. Lessons serving to teach humility served only to stroke that fire. Orders and instruction where she felt diminished or wronged quickly devolved in arguments and lots and lots of yelling. Her teachers kept up with her for several years – for despite her flaws she was both willing and talented. However, eventually, they too reached the limit of their patience and the unruly woman was expelled. Ashamed of her failure – and ashamed of what her family would think of it – Rosaline journeyed north to the Worldswound. She knew that the crusaders there always needed more warriors in the battle against the forces of evil. More importantly, they were less picky about whom they recruited. With a bit of luck she would earn her glory and knighthood there. With a bit more luck she wouldn’t be killed by a demon while doing so. The trip was long and perilous, but thanks to her skill-at-arms and a few choice companions she made it to Nerosyan, Mendev, within a few months. Two thing immediately became apparent – there was plenty of knights with loose morals willing to teach a talented squire. And Rosa utterly abhorred them all. The exemplified all that her previous mentors had taught her was wrong with the world and now the lessons, which had seem pedantic at the time, was her liferaft to cling to and try to stay above the pandemonium. In a solemn chapel, abandoned by its worshipers long ago out of fear of the demonic onslaught – but yet a bit behind the front, she found solace and swore an oath to rise above. And oath to serve the just and good, to reject all falsehood. During the harsh battles and long nights to come, she always kept that oat just at the back of her mind. But even among the lowest of the low Templars there were diamonds in the rough and Rosa gathered a core of competent and (somewhat) likeminded companions around her. Constant battle with the fiends of the lower plane quickly hardens both the body and soul – of those that live that is. Rosa was one of those with the uncanny ability to make it out alive, to drag herself back from even the most devastating of battles. But many of her companions did not share that trait and as the number of friends resting below roughly cut tombstones soon outnumbered the friends breathing. Eventually, Rosa had enough. At yet another nameless and forsaken battlefield she was staggering over the bodies of the fallen, man and demon alike. ‘Is this all there is? War eternal?’ She cried out at the heavens – and the heavens only replied with damning silence. She sneered, then once again shouted to the sky. But now resignation was replaced with fire. ‘So be it then! I will not rest until the last demon is cast screaming back into the pit! Then I will follow them bellow and purge their sorrow realm!’ Somewhere out in the endless planes a slumbering deity of war and light heard her second oath – one oath of determination and one oath of wrath – fulfilling some ancient prophecy only scribbled on the crumbling walls of the last remnant of a demon fallen land. The heavens were silent no longer – a flash of lightning and a crack of thunder split the sky. Divine power surged in her, pulsing with the beat of her heart. When she strode back to the crusaders keep, it was not with the staggered steps of yet another surviving veteran. It was with the stride of a champion – someone fit to invoke fear in the hearts of evil. And fear they did. |
