They first came to Magnimar, and then quickly earned a farmhold in the farmlands bordering the Whisperwood Moor, just SE of what would become Sandpoint. Corran grew up on the farm, and has been to Sandpoint many times. He was trained in the martial skills by his older family members, as they continue their military tradition. Several of his older family members have served in the Magnimar military and/or still serve in the militia. Corran also picked up his wilderness skills through hunting and camping throughout the area. Corran himself is a follower of Iomedae, but that is more tradition in his family than true devotion on his part. Corran is currently in Sandpoint to visit for a few days and see the festival, which is a high point in the area’s social calendar. It is getting near the time when he must decide to join the Magnimar military in the family tradition, or break the tradition and do something else. Explanation of Flaws
Shaky is "supposed" to represent bad hand-eye coordination, bad distance vision, etc. However, Corran's reflexes and vision are better than normal. For Corran, Shaky represents the fact that he neglected training with the bow (and other ranged weapons) and instead focused on rough and tumble hand to hand combat. He is excellent in a toe to toe fight, but only average with a bow. Which is fine for casual hunting, but not for warfare or sniping. Weak-willed doesn't describe Corran either, at least not as it is commonly percived. Corran's willpower is fine, even above average (Wis12). However, he has a long tradition of soldiers, knights and heroes to live up to, and this causes him to sometimes second-guess himself, or wonder if he is worthy. It is these moments of indecision and worry that give Corran the -3 Will penalty. Notable Facts/Sayings
"Better to be armed and not need your sword, rather than need your sword and not be armed" "As a sword can parry, a shield can strike. Only a fool ignores this threat, yet few take advantage." |
