Description and Personality

Spoiler:

Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 225 lb
Eyes: Dark Brown
Hair: Dark Brown
Skin: Tan
A tall athletic man, Cord tries his best to keep him self fit, while his job helps; he is prone to putting a bit of weight on around his middle if he doesn't exercise regular. He wears his hair shoulder length with a fringe, which covers a nasty scar on his forehead caused by an incident with rocky outcropping while surfing. He has taken to growing a goaty beard of late. While not classically good looking, he is never the less a fairly attractive man, made more so by his height and build.
On the surface Cord has a relaxed care free nature, he is always there to help, perpetually optimistic and loyal friend. These traits also lead him to be walked over by people sometimes and in the last few months he has taken to drinking more than is appropriate to hide the pain of losing his wife to another more handsome, intelligent and successful man. His greatest love is his daughter Freya, whom he dotes upon, his long hours and poor pay have meant that he has missed a lot of her important moments in life and these regrets have fuelled his hidden depression.

Back Ground

Spoiler:
Until the last few years Cord Vogel had a carefree life, he spent his late teens and early twenties working in the Mountain resort of Lake Louise as a Snowboard instructor during the winter before migrating to his home town of Tofino BC to teach surf school at Cox Bay for the summer.

Life was one endless party until he met "The Witch" as he now calls Louise his ex-wife. At first everything was good, well better than good, it was great. She was the sexy Student Doctor holidaying in Tofino with some of her fellow medical students and he was the sun kissed Surf bum instructor. In a whirlwind 6 months they were married and expecting their little girl Freya, money was tight but Cord secured a job in the fire service, working out of Fire Hall No 1 in Strathcona, which helped a little.

The marriage was over before Freya reached her first birthday. Cord moved out taking his belongings with him, he toyed with going back to his old life, but he decided in the end to stay in Vancouver where he could be close to his daughter. His bed was not even cold when Louise moved in with "Doctor Dave", as Cord refers to him. She had met him at work in Vancouver General where Doctor David Lee works as a Neurologist.

Present Day
Two days ago The world was going to hell, or at least that is how it looked from China Town, the section of Vancouver that Fire House No 1 served. The infection known as A.S.E was spreading like wild fire, people were panicking, some were fleeing the city others were locking them selves away in the homes and apartments. 2 of Cord’s 7 man crew had not even shown up for work that morning and neither of them were answering their phone, worse still a 3rd man had started to feel ill and was sent to the hospital. The Chaos was spreading and no amount of CERT training and planning would stop it, but The Community Emergency Response Team was in force pulling in volunteers to aid the over stretched emergency services while initiating what ever protocol they had dreamt up that could deal with the break down of a whole city. To Cord it seemed like they were sticking a band aid over a sucking great big wound. The emergency services were stretched to breaking point and the radio chatter gave indications that Vancouver General had been isolated by the military. The Chaos was causing fires, lots of them; some set deliberately others caused through carelessness and fear, but all of them requiring putting out, least the whole city went up in flames.
Yesterday
The military started barricading areas of downtown Vancouver to enforce the expanding quarantine, the police had to start escorting ambulances and fire engines after several of them came under attack by crazed A.S.E. victims. Cord and his crew even came across one engine sitting abandoned, engine idling, hoses un-reeled and ready to use, there were no sign of the crew.
The sound of gun fire had increased to an almost constant background noise, Radio chatter was constant, garbled reports of hordes of people attacking and overwhelming the barricades filtered through the noise. Military vehicles were seen driving at break neck speed through the streets, Cord was alarmed that many of them seemed to be heading away from the barricades.
Sometime in the early evening while fighting a huge fire in one of the down town hotels, Bayshore Westin hotel, Cord had another encounter with full blown A.S.E. victims. They were attacked by a naked middle aged lady who in the struggle managed to bite the fingers off one of Cord’s companions; Cord was knocked backwards down a flight of stairs, crashing his head against the wall at the bottom and lost consciousness. He awoke in a pool of his own sweat lying in some bushes, the sound of heavy metal music rattling his already pounding head.
