Shortly after her birth Ce-Eshna and her mother, a Djinn of Jalmeray, were taken
hostage by a demon. Her father, a powerful Vuldrani sorcerer, set forth to save them
but was confronted with the horrible choice when he arrived. Both clung to life kept
alive by a foul magic. To free one he would have to unbind the spell, but in doing so
it would devour the soul of the other. His yet unnamed daughter and wife were
unconscious but his beloved wife had known he would come and had used the last of her
magic to leave him a message. The message that tipped the balance and told him which
she would prefer. "Name her Ce-Eshna" the magic mouth spoke as his hand hovered over
the binding. His heart broke as he let his beloved die. With his daughter in arm he
destroyed the creature that had taken them.
Already a nonconformist in a nation of deep tradition he found it difficult to face
the challenges of raising his only daughter in his own homeland. Still feeling a
burning hatred for all demon kind he headed north to the Worldwound to seek vengeance
against their ilk. Bringing his daughter with him he found his heart much lighter than
he had expected. She brought joy to him as she grew and though he much desired for her
to follow his path could see it was not something she felt so deeply, oftentimes
finding her out playing at battle during the time allotted for her magic lessons. He
chose then that regardless of the role tradition and destiny would take in her
life he would not ever pressure her to be something she was not. As time passed he even
came to love a local woman and remarry.
Ce-Eshna never knew her true mother but she could always feel the call in her blood.
The breeze whispered her it's tales of adventure and drove her to wander. The wind sang
to her of distant people and places and drove her to wonder. But each zephyr that
blew from Worldwound itself told her of terror and tried to drive her mad. She was
plagued by screaming fits and dark visions during this time. Often it left those around
her fearful, that perhaps she had been left tainted. Though her own family never caught
so much as a whisper of such fears and certainly did not share them it caused many
problems for the young outsider. She was often the target of bullies who felt they
could get away with tormenting the "little demon child". Her very nature worked against
her as she began to exhibit more of her mothers parentage and the wind itself would
push her tormentors away.
It was finally in her teenage years when this came to a head. A number of misguided
youth, thinking to protect others from the "possessed" Ce-Eshna took her prisoner and
conducted a poorly thought out attempt to exorcize the demon that simple was not there.
A Priest of Sarenrae caught them out and each was duly punished but not before the
damage was done. She was left scarred and even the healing magic of the priest could
not put it all to right. Despite of all this she never hated her tormentors. Of all
people she felt she could understand their fears and she still heard the torments the
demons wrought whenever the wind came from the north. She vowed she would do her best
to stop them as best she could. To this end she honed her skills and learned the art of
killing demons. In the hopes that one day she could even free the winds of the
worldwound itself from the torment the demons unleashed upon it...
