Focused Study: All humans are skillful, but some, rather than being generalists, tend to specialize in a handful of skills. At 1st, 8th, and 16th level, such humans gain Skill Focus in a skill of their choice as a bonus feat. This racial trait replaces the bonus feat trait.

Heart of the Wilderness: Humans raised in the wild learn the hard way that only the strong survive. They gain a racial bonus equal to half their character level on Survival checks. They also gain a +5 racial bonus on Constitution checks to stabilize when dying and add half their character level to their Constitution score when determining the negative hit point total necessary to kill them. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A barbarian is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Background:
Anniksson grew up in his mother's tribe in the savage lands of the mammoth lords. His father's tribe lived on the other side of the border in Irrisen. The two tribes raided one another often. His father, who was said to be half-giant, was killed by the men of his mother's tribe before Anniksson was born. His mother, Annik, died in childbirth. Anniksson's size was obvious from birth. The elders let him live as an experiment to raise him to be a great warrior. One of the elders took him in to feed him and shelter him, but he never took Anniksson as a son. His childhood was rough. He was always looked on as an outsider. The smaller boys often challenged him or ganged up on him. In his early teens, he met and fell in love with a winter witch apprentice from Irrisen. They met secretly for a few years, until her mentor followed her to their meeting place. Anniksson had no chance. He was struck by her spell and left for dead in the freezing wilderness. When he woke, he couldn't feel his legs. He crawled back to his village, where the elder's wife nursed him back to health. He told the elder the whole story during his recovery, and the elder forsook him. Letting a woman lure him into such a vulnerable position, combined with the apparently crippling damage Anniksson had suffered, was a final mistake that marked the end of the tribe's experiment to raise a giant-blooded champion. After he recovered enough mobility, and presuming that his love was killed (and possibly eaten) by her mentor, Anniksson left his village. His only guide was to head south, as far from his accursed homeland as he could get. He hired on and traveled with any caravan that would take him further away. Three years later, he's now found himself in a small village called Heldren, in Taldor. The people have been... tolerant of the imposing barbarian, so he's stayed here a while. While he's been staying in Heldren, he has been hunting wild game for the village's butcher, who has come to appreciate Anniksson's skills, though most of the village only knows him by sight.

Regardless of class, he'll max out survival.
