The most obvious: You see can see the frozen Han Solo once or twice when Kaylees Bunk is shown.
Is it some sort of Firefly Setting Religious Icon: The Frozen Man - "Han Solo will be freed from Carbonite!" A remnant cult of the second Jedi Church...Common amongst young Inner Alliance citizens who are revolutionaries and Anarchists (something that might describe Kaley).

In the Train Job, the Alliance troopers are Starship Troopers.According to Joss Whedons Commentary those actually are the uniforms from Starship Troopers, they used them because he thought they fit the alliance and were affordable.
*nods* So not so much a 'shout out' as a 'thank G_d they're cheep' moment. Still it is a reference to another film.
