WotC Web Archives

3.5/d20/OGL

So, with the advent of "pay to play" 4e at the Wizards website, does this mean that all the great archived web content is going to go away? (or has it already?) or is it magically going to be moved to the Insider portion of the site so that we have to pay for it?

Thoughts?

And should I start filling my ink cartridges NOW?

I dread a great amount of PDF downloading in the near future.

Update:
As of now, nearly everything (archived articles) after December 2004 through July 2007 is missing from WotC's website.

Signs of things to come?

No more free content whatsoever?

I just went to the Minis site, then to the FR site. There are links to all the online stuff there.

Here is some.

I think the stuff is still there for free, you just have to get a little more creative to find it.

I personally downloaded all of the free adventures and the erratas (even for books I don't own [yet]) as soon as the site finally starting working again.

Use Wizard's of the Coast's search engine directly. Type in what you want and you can still find the 3rd edition and 3.5 revised archives. Type by the posting title (i.e Vicious Venues, Fight Club, Wyrms of the North, The Mind's Eye, etc., not by subject). Do not go directly to the Dungeon & Dragons or Forgotten Realms sights as they will take you are all content posted as of Gen Con August 2007. I figured this out Friday evening by tapping into some old shortcuts I saved months ago.

Easiest way to get to all the old stuff:

google: wizards steal this hook

(or whatever you seek)

click on the "Cached" entry

Welcome Articles :)

According to the Wizards guys (Bill Slavicsek and Scott Rouse) I spoke to on Saturday, DNDInsider will still continue to offer free content, only the Dungeon, Dragon, and Character/Dungeon/Adventure building content will require a subscription fee (and Monthly compilations of Dungeon and Dragon will be available to buy if you don't have a subscription as well). They could always change that, but that's what they're currently planning on doing.

The site has been changed to direct people towards the 4e content, since they obviously want people to go that route, but the old stuff will continue to be available for a time (according to Scott, the final decision on the fate of things like the 3.5 SRD have not yet been made. They may rely on other sites to mirror it and not actually have it on their site.)

From the WotC forums:

We needed to remove the majority of the index that builds the D&D site because of high volume. The links will all return in a few days.
Sorry for the inconvience.
