Scarab Sages

Gerry Conway, Punisher Co-Creator and Spider-Man Writer, Dies at 73

Another comic book legend gone. He had a hand in creating many great characters and writing so many good stories. Rest in Peace.

F$&k cancer.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Big Power Girl fan, big Legion fan. Will miss him very much. May he rest peacefully.

He was an exceptional writer and good man. He will be missed.

Though not the biggest Gerry Conway fan, I'll never forget his long-overdue revival of the Justice Society series in the 1970s. Conway gave us Power Girl, back when that character actually filled a void.

I remember in the mid-2000s reading that Justice Society stuff - at first to my older child - and in particular, reading the sound effects, which greatly amused my younger child, who was barely old enough to talk at the time. He imitated the more violent onomatopoeia, saying "Crash, bang, boom." I soon took to reading HIM that Justice Society material as well. I think that might have marked his first real interest in comics. I went on to read him many more in the years to come.

And I remember "The Night Gwen Stacy Died", which changed comic books forever. It's important for major characters to die in fight scenes, to give the stories weight, to make the stakes feel real.

Scarab Sages

I think my favorite of his has always been Firestorm. I’ve got nearly all those comics. Something about the character always struck me as cool.
