Please help me understand Paizo shipping

I couldn’t find an existing relevant thread.

I ordered Player Core 2 from Paizo.

Paizo listed it as shipped on 7/18/2024.

The order on my account shows complete.

I received an email from Paizo containing a UPS tracking number.

The tracking number shows zero updates since 7/18.

UPS’s page furthermore says, “Tracking information for this piece is unavailable at this time. Tracking may take 24-48 hours after your mail piece has shipped. Please check back at a later time for additional information.

If tracking is unavailable after 3 days, please contact your shipper.”

Am I missing something that the rest of you know inherently, or do I have a problem?

Welcome to the pain of UPS-MI shipping.

The way it works is that UPS starts off by picking up palettes of packages and are scanned all at once. They then go on their journey together, only being broken up when they get close your location. At that point, they're broken apart and handed off to USPS for the 'final mile.'

However... there's been a problem in the system for a while now where the UPS side of the transaction just doesn't _work_. Maybe the tracking code being generated is wrong. Maybe they're being scanned wrong. I have no idea. But the tracking page doesn't update/

I also used Informed Delivery from USPS, which lets me know when packages have been made for me, and many times THAT one will show tracking once it's been handed over, and will at least show me that a label's been created. So I used that for a sanity check.

Oh, and UPS-MI is slow as snails.

Paizo has a serious issue with their UPS-MI shipping policy. I really wish they'd use something better that doesn't save us a few bucks at our (and customer support's) expense. If you have a package that never gets to you, because the tracking numbers almost never work you just have to wait until the order is outside of the arrival window and Paizo will issue a replacement.

That said when my most recent Howl of the Wild subscription order came, I noticed the UPS label in fact showed the tracking number Paizo emailed me *but* with my zip code precessing, and when I tried using that number on UPS in the format [ZIP CODE][PAIZO PROVIDED TRACKING NUMBER STARTING IN PZO] it actually worked so I guess it's worth trying that if you haven't?


Glad I'm not the only one. Wherever your Player Core 2 is, at least it's not lonely!

Unfortunately, it did not work when I just tried it on my end with my July order (maybe because I've received it?). I attempted with just the regular 5 digit ZIP alone, and with the post office code added, with and without the dash.

Only updates I ever get are on my Informed Delivery when they hand it off to USPS.
