About the blade - this is a unique sword made out of obsidian. It is a bit longer than regular bastard sword. It can not be used in one hand, unless you burn a feat or trait that allows you to use larger weapons than your size. It deals 2d8 damage to both S and M creatures and it has critical range 18-20 with x3 multiplier. The use of the blade is not covered by any existing proficiency. In order to use it without -4 penalty, you'd need to burn a feat Exotic Weapon (Obsidian Sword). Now, the blade is magical. It can cut the "dear iron" as if it was paper. "Dead Iron" is iron (or steel) not in contact with living being. Therefore, the blade could cut the chains, but not the iron cuffs that are in contact with your skin. Wielder of the blade is instinctively aware of this ability. The blade perhaps has other abilities or perhaps it can be enchanted. You don't know that yet. You'd need to examine it with both extensive use of Knowledge skills and magic.
The blade is black and the hilt is slightly curved elk horn. I suggest googling "obsidian blade" and "elk horn hilt" to gain the impression of the sword.

Eadfaas speaks Gnome/Trader's, and Halfling (among others). Between those two, he can make out almost everything anyone but Yardiff Bey says, due to language overlaps.
But yeah, pantomime and loud, slow talking. ;-)
Also, I've been careful to indicate what language(s) Ead has been speaking as he speaks them.

Guys, I'm gonna add a bunch of new talent and feats in the next week or so. You are free to rebuild your characters in minor or major ways after I do that. After that, you'll get an opportunity to rebuild or change them again at 5th level.
In the meantime, does anyone want some specific info for their class or race?

@Anwyn, here is my shadar character Illiameyl Arabep. May have information that can help you. Also would know of your parents.
I fine with Heroic Path and Channeler (healer) build. Something to make plumekith heritage come out a little stronger as the adventure develops. See Strix for ideas as they happened to be similar. Think one of the new classes, Shaman (nature) if I think, had some interesting concepts.

Cool, I look forward to seeing what you come up with nightflier.
Being from the old Empire, I guess its a bit problematic expecting a whole lot of options regarding heroic paths, feats etc. If you have anything specific to the old empire, I'd love to see it.
As for languages, I've been assuming that the Common the Yardiff knows is specific to the old Empire, similar to the Courtier and Colonial branches of the Sarcosans language (unfortunately no Sarcosans here :) ) Even any Elvish he may know would probably be quite divergent from anything spoken here.
Nightflier, can I use an available language slot to learn the common variant native to this continent, over time?

As soon as you reach next level, you can learn any language that other members of the party are proficient with.

Do the characters have any idea what time of day it is? Or can they determine such once they reach the surface?
Eadfaas is small and sneaky. He's a good scout, so long as he doesn't actually have to notice anything. :-)
He's also probably the group's best translator for everyone but Yardiff Bey.
I suspect food will be a top priority once we're sure that the Fell aren't chasing us... sadly, unless it involves convincing some locals to sell to us, Eadfaas isn't a lot of help in the food acquisition department, either. *sigh*
