Single player mech pool

Advice

No one in the group wants to build a mech besides me. Which makes it difficult because of the Mech pool points.
Is their alternative rules for a single player to build their own mech?

My GM has informed me if I can find alternative rules for gathering mech points he will allow me to build it.

Mechs are more powerful than PCs, so it doesn't seem like a good idea to have one PC in a mech and the rest 'on foot'

Mech combat uses the same rules and functions on the same scale as most other Starfinder combats, such as using square-grid maps, means of resolving attacks, and more. As a result, designing encounters involving mechs is not substantially different from designing any other combat encounter. The following are some things to consider when designing encounters for mechs.
CR: PCs that are operating mechs appropriate for their level have an Average Party Level 3 levels higher than normal, and therefore are able to overcome stronger threats as a result; consider the following when designing encounters for mechs: First, mechs with multiple operators are typically highly maneuverable, capable of both moving and attacking skillfully. As such, slow-moving foes with limited ranged options are less threatening for PCs operating mechs that can often run circles around them. When presenting a small number of foes, consider favoring maneuverable or long-range combatants, or consider providing terrain or objectives that encourage the PCs to engage the enemy at close range.
Second, many mech weapons excel at attacking multiple targets at once, so mechs excel at fending off large numbers of lesser foes. Enemies whose CR are lower than the mech’s tier rarely pose a threat to the mech, unless they’re in large groups. However, using only a few mechs to defeat a small army (or a large foe with numerous minions) can be extremely gratifying.
...

If you really wanted to have a single mech player, I suppose you could try using the Table 4-1: Mech Points per PC chart but use your character level -3 to keep some semblance of balance (a level 5 character could have a mech worth 30 mp), but keep in mind that mechs tend to be Huge or bigger so they probably work best in campaigns actually built around them...

DISCLAIMER: Never actually played with Mechs, so any advice given is strictly theoretical...

I don't understand the question.
Are you making one Mech for the whole group to use? Or one Mech for just your character to use while everyone else is playing non-Mech PC's?

If it's the first one, this is pretty easy; If the PC's are all level X, make a Mech of tier X, with a budget of 15 times tier times amount of PC's. Don't forget that the Mech can't go over tier X+1, no matter how many points it has!

If it's the second one, Taja went over the basics: A Mech of tier X is roughly equal to a PC of level X+3. Use the point budget for a single PC, so 15 points per tier. I will add that this is a rough guideline at best! The Mech rules really weren't made for combined-arms gameplay*, so the Mech may feel noticeably more or less powerful than the other PC's, and is always at risk of stealing the spotlight. I'd advise you, the other players, and the GM to be careful with this one, if it is allowed at all.

*Oh man, it'd be cool to see a combined-arms matchup in Starfinder, BattleTech-style. Power armor, infantry, vehicles, Mechs... I have no idea how well it would work, but that would make for a crazy table at a local game store!

Hi Arbalester. I want to build a mech by myself using the mech points system. My DM and I have looked at the rules and he has figured that I will have to be fourth level to start accumulating mech points at the first level tier, I would love to build a Cyclone, but instead of a wheeled version, it would be a hover bike . Also what about UPB’s? Can they be used to help with building mechs? Thank you for the interest and your comments.

Like starships' BPs, mechs' MPs are completely separate from the credits/UBPs for normal equipment. Talk to your GM about how upgrades to the vehicle form (credits/UBPs or story awards only?) interact with upgrades to the mech form (MP only).

That said, a hovertrike (Large) that can Transform! into a Huge mech (bogripper, charger, marshghost, phantom, sharpwing, skirmisher, or skyspy frame) with 15 MP at 4th level would probably be a decent starting point.

A jumpcycle is a level 5 item, so a custom Large transforming jumpcycle/skyspy mech (60 MP) would probably be something that is appropriate for a 7th level character.
