Raise Shield DR / lvl

Advice

Hi everyone,

I though I had bookmarked something similar but seems that I am wrong ( and still can't find any chart, so I am starting to think I confused it with something else ).

Is there by any chance a graph which shows the average DR given that the raise shield action from lvl 1 to lvl 20?

Thank you.

That would depend on how high level the opponent attacking you are and which MAP they are attacking you at.

However as a general guideline, +2AC is about 20 percentage units of damage reduction if it reduces their chance to crit and about 10 percentage units of damage reduction if it reduces their chance to hit.

Examples:

Example 1:
Enemy crits you on 17, they have a 50% chance of a normal hit and a 20% chance of critting you, this is a 90% (50 + 2*20) multiplier of their damage.

With +2AC they still have a 50% chance of a normal hit but only a 10% chance of critting you, this is a 70% (50 + 2*20) multiplier of their damage.

Example 2:
Enemy hits you on 12 for a 45% chance of a normal hit and 5% chance of a critical hit, this is a 55% multiplier of their damage. Reducing their hit chance to 35% reduces their damage multiplier to 45%

Example 3:
Extreme example, the enemy crits you on 7 for a 25% chance of a normal hit and 70% chance of critting for a damage multiplier of 165%, raising a shield here increases the chance of a normal hit to 35% and reduces crit chance to 60%, reducing their multiplier to 155% which is a reduction of 10 percentage units.

Conclusions: Raising a shield is about 20% damage reduction they hit on rolling 2-8 and about a 10% reduction otherwise. This often means in practice that you avoid the most damage from MAP-0 attacks and sometimes MAP-5 depending on the enemy. Also why you should Nimble Dodge the first attack in most cases.
