Voidglutton AKA Viscount Smoulderburn

(That will-o'-wisp in the camp at the top left of Old Sycamore in the Kingmaker CRPG ... anyone remember it?)

Party had to run! They'll be back ... this encounter is hilarious. It's not broken but it may need GM fiddling if the PCs aren't optimizers.

Knowing this lot, they will try to find a different route in the dungeon as no-one got captured.

We just finished our last session of book 1, which ended with the Voidglutton fight. I definitely ended up nerfing the fight for a couple of reasons, mainly because the party leans more to the magic side than physical, and thanks to all of the

book 1 encounters:
will-o-wisps and their damn immunity, which the party had to face an extra one because of a ritual disaster.
The spellcasters were feeling frustrated, and I could tell that they weren't having a great time today due to facing three encounters with these similar creatures in a row. I felt especially bad for our Oracle, who I don't think had a successful hit for the entire session.

I should also add that, overall, book 1 was fantastic! I loved having a town to return to and let the players get to know the citizens. This may also be the first campaign in which my players started remembering names of NPCs without checking notes.

They identified it, knew it was immune to some spells, and tried (succeeded) to run away.

I might have prompted this by implying it was bound to a particular area as one of the Recall Knowledge checks they made.

If they come back and go looking for it, they will have appropriate preparations.
