drow proficiency

Rules Questions

since drows are proficient with raipers are they familiar with spiral raiper

No, just like anyone proficient with a rapier isn't automatically proficient in the spiral rapier. It's an exotic weapon with no mention of proficiency being the same as a rapier.

well there is this

Any effects that apply to rapiers also apply to a spiral rapier.

Proficiency is your knowledge of something's use.

Proficiency is not an effect that affects the weapon.

Proficiency affects you, not the weapon.

The weapon doesn't know or care if you have proficiency. It doesn't know or care whether or not you take a penalty to your accuracy using it. The weapon is the exact same whether you are proficient or not. It is, unaffected.

okay

The Inspired Blade has a bunch of things that I believe would work with a Spiral Rapier because of that line about effects that apply to Rapiers also apply to Spiral Rapiers.

I believe Fencing Grace is another such thing, although this may be arguable... I don't know. Nor am I willing to argue one way or another.

In the case of the Orc HornBow, it was agreed that the line should be removed from the description. With the Orc HornBow description it is something about effects that affect shortbows and longbows also affect the Orc HornBow. The developer said that the description is perfectly fine without that sentence and just to ignore it and any problems that come from it...

I think it would be wise to do the same with that line in the Spiral Rapier description.

That would include things like weapon focus(rapier) would also apply to a spiral rapier.

But does not extend to proficiency.

What is it you're even after from the spiral rapier?

The only real difference is the blocking and disarm qualities, neither of which is very useful in my opinion.

Yeah honestly after going back through the thread this one lead me to for possible answers, I find that it's best to just pretend that text isn't there. There might be a few things out their that work with it but not even sure what they might be.
