Near Space: Nemenarians?

General Discussion

Page 90-91 in Near Space we get introduced to the world of Nemenar. It's a curse blighted world where darkvision/X-sense is mandatory because they block out all but UV light to stave off an ever burning curse.

Yet, I can't find this race, or I missed them in one of the Archives?

Curseblighted race with a vengful goddess connection? I...I kinda want to play this.

I suspect they'll show up in a later archive. Possibly IV, but it may be too early a publication for a random species in Near Space to be given PC treatment.

Near Space did a great job of seeding potential playable races, There must be at least a dozen species that are name dropped in that book as sapient species but most of them sadly don't get anything more than a name and a general description. Hopefully we'll see them come about in future books, whether that be AA4, the back of APs, or in future splatbooks.

As others have mentioned, Near Space is like a lot like Pact Worlds in that it name drops races without showing them so they can whet our appetites for a future Alien Archive entry. I have a feeling that this will be the modus operandi for the Setting HCs moving forward where they slowly introduce us to races that will one day become fan favorites.

One of the tasks that was set for Near Space writers was to seed in new races that we could build upon later. It's more exciting to read about a race in an Alien Archive if you've already got a sense of its place in the Universe.

As a counter point, Pact Worlds also had stats for a few of said races as well, while Near Space went in the COM direction of having alternate racial traits for races that have already been statted up.

Which, granted, is arguably necessary, those have to go somewhere.
