Kaer Maga the non-undead thread

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I'm trying to work out where I want to put my new dungeon and running into a bit of trouble. I want to put it in Haruka but Kaer Maga is kind of getting in the way.

I took the Lost Kingdoms map from the back of the World Guide and superimposed it over the Varissian map from the same book to see exactly what my options are. Yes, I know I'm being nit-picky, but I really want this to be canon.

Kaer Maga was run by Karzoug but between one map and another he's crept over into Haruka. This would be fine but Haruka is butted right up against Eurythnia. This narrows Haruka to a tiny sliver from the Ashwood Forest to the land between the Yondabakari and Runtash Rivers.

So, I'm going to try to work with it by putting the dungeon in/near the Ashwood Forest. I don't want it next to Kaer Maga because I don't want this to become a Kaer Maga campaign.

Rumors have the Ashwood Forest with ghosts and werewolves. Is there anything anywhere that ties that down more definitively or can I play with that rumor while remaining canon?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

If you want to use either map of Old Thassilon, go for it. You're the DM, you call the shots. Maybe Haruka lost that land to Karzoug, but for a high price (which would fit perfectly for both Runelords).

That rumor sounds perfectly useable for what you have in mind. The PC's can be from Kaer Maga and maybe go there to sell loot, but it doesn't have to have any plot points if you don't want it too. May I ask what your plot is?

I think you might be misreading the map. Kaer Maga is just northwest of the Yondabakari, which places it well within Shalast. Haruka's northwestern border was significantly southeast of that.

Unless I'm missing something...?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Kaer Maga is on the Yondabakari, on the edge of the cliffs. From what I can see from the overlaps, and I went in really carefully, the northern border is north/northwest of Kaer Maga. The maps were probably drawn by different people years apart and if I hadn't gone in with Photoshop I'd never have known. I'm probably just being too nitpicky but with Eurythnia just to the south, there's nowhere to really go. Eurythnia's northern border is a line through Harse and Janderhoff with her capital in Korvosa. I'd be happy to send you my composite map if you like.

I am a caribbean medical student and don't get to play so I'm writing this to have it playtested by a friend and then posted on these boards. I've checked the Terms of Use and I believe I'm allowed to do this. Medical school is very time demanding so I guess I may finish it in a year or so.

Here is a synopsis of my Plot:

"Fate" is reawakening the Runelords pretty much at the same time. The PCs will have to find out why everyone is fleeing the Ashwood, fight their way into Xin-Haruka, deal with a group of outsider surgeons who control people with brain implants, close a bunch of Gates, get dragged into an astral civil war between two sides of the same race trying to exterminate each other and then fight a bunch of high powered minions after which they get to kill another Runelord - Krune the Summoner. Along the way there should be significant amounts of Planehopping through the open Gates and fighting off Golarian Underdark denizens that have also found the city.

I've always wanted to write an adventure path so I think I will. It will take quite some time, but I have to do something to periodically take my mind off Neuroscience and Pharmacology. 8(

Ah, I found the problem--you're talking about the map in the old Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting, which has some errors in it. The newer maps from the Inner Sea World Guide and Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Lost Kingdoms have corrected that--the actual border between Shalast and Haruka is southeast of the Yondabakari, and the border between Shalast and Eurythnia follows the Yondabakari, with the border between Haruka and Eurythnia roughly following the mountains and coastline.

Sorry about the confusion! Hope that helps!

James,

I am more confused now.

The Lost Kingdoms book isn't out until June, so I haven't seen it yet. I did borrow a friends new edition Inner Sea Campaign Guide, took the map from it and overlaid it with Varissia. It's actually more of a problem now than it was.

Haruka now includes Korvosa (solidly) and the cities around it (barely). Both the Guide to Korvosa and the Dungeons of Golarion book place Sorshen (Lust) in Korvosa. Other than Korvosa, Haruka is also pretty much limited to Harse. The Kallow Mounds and Mundatei are now in Haruka (Mundatei barely).

I am rather concerned that the Lost Kingdoms book will invalidate anything I write. It seems possible, or even likely, that Xin-Haruka will be under Mundatei and the rumor of metallic dragons destroying it will be canon. The world will know in June. 8)

I'm probably going to walk away from this concept. It seemed fun but also seems to be an area currently under development and so a poor pick for my needs. Maybe I'll pursue one of my other ideas as I had been looking at writing Razmir finally making his bid for immortality or fleshing out the Pyramid of Kamaria. Or even better, maybe I'll revisit my idea for a semi-steampunk AP out of Alkenstar and Katapesh. Hard to go wrong with Airship Pirates. 8)

Thank you so much for your help! I love your products and the very idea that one of the authors would answer posts on the message boards just blows me away.
