Archives of Nethys says the Boreal Creature template can be used with summons. Can someone tell me the source?

Boreal Creature

Title says it all. This is for an ice caster build, so I would love it if this is true, but I just can’t seem to find the source. Any help would be appreciated.

The page cites its source right at the top: Pathfinder #67: The Snows of Summer pg. 72

Content from the appendices of AP's has a reputation for being a bit dodgy, so you should always ask your GM before utilizing such content.

That was for the template in general. I’m asking about the source for it being usable with summons, which wasn’t in that book, at least not as far I can see.

Could be a sort of marker noting that it's appropriate for a summon. Entropic and Resolute had that for a while before being something that could actually be applied to a summon iirc.

Going to the Acadamae school from Inner Sea Magic should allow you to pretty freely add Boreal creatures to your list, seeing as they'd be the same CR as their Celestial/Fiendish equivalents and it's specifically marked as appropriate for summoning. The rules for education are a bit... loose but following the book's recommendations for how to gain prestige within your own school you'd be able to add 1-2 Boreal creatures per class level.

The same template shows up in 'Irrisen - Land of Eternal Winter', there might be something about it there.

This doesn't solve your problem really, but I'd allow it with the Versatile Summon Monster feat. At first I assumed it must be included in those options, but apparently not. Similar concept though.

The template is there, including some example creatures, but nothing about it being usable with summons.

Did it make one of the later Beastiary's? IIRC that is where they wrote in allowing the resolute and entropic templates with Summon Monster...

Can’t find it in any of them.

It may be part of the Versatile Summon Nature's Ally feat, that does have the Fiery, aqueous, etc. templates. If not it might be a typo, or some boon type thing.

Might have to ask Archives of Nethys what that's about.

Has the text of the item you linked at the start of this thread changed since you posted it? I am not seeing any reference to the template being usable with summoned creatures at all now.

Still there:

Boreal Creature (CR +1)

Pathfinder #67: The Snows of Summer pg. 72
Acquired/Inherited Template Inherited
Simple Template No
Usable with Summons Yes

Though since this is a yes/no flag it's an easy typo to make.
