Werewolves?

Where are all the lycanthropes? I know it will take some time to get all the pathfinder classics brought into space, but they are a classic. i been wondering what the rules will be since in space the moon can be anywhere. You cna have lycanthropes on a moon.

There is a Castrovelian strand of lycanthropy mostly recurring among Lashuntas that turns you into a creature called a Malachrom. Basically, you become a weredinosaur. I keep hoping this will pop up in an Alien Archive at some point. One malachrom actually showed up in the Pathfinder Iron Gods Adventure Path.

How did lycanthropy work in Pathfinder? Were they always chaotic evil upon turning or did good strains of lycanthropy exists like in D&D or did you even keep your alignment in some circumstances.

That would likely affect if lycanthropy is classified as a disease to be erradicated, including any were creatures, or if they are still considered citizens, just with a chronic disease.
In the latter case there might be special laws about turning other people into lycanthropes and other things like vampires, equating it with murder. There might also be a regulated way to become a lycanthrope, requiring mandatory 6 month counceling and a signed and notarized declaration of consent.

Probably all of the above as it differs from planet to planet.

Imagines a werewolf on jupiter being affected by 79 moons...

Also, would it be any moon, or just the one around the planet you were infected on? If it's just the original planet and you leave, are you still affected by the moon's phases from light years away? Are you 'cured' as long as you leave the world? Does the cursed transformation propagate at the speed of light, so that travelling in the drift you would rapidly shift back and forth? Does being in another plane stop the transformation?

Does Castrovel even have a moon for their were-deinonychus strain? Venus doesn't, I don't remember Castrovel off the top of my head.

Castrovel has a single moon.

I was excitedly boring the little lady with speculation about how lycanthropes could be done in Starfinder the other night.

"No you don't get it, there's all these alien animals, super space apex predators they can turn into. And the guy already starts out as a weird alien millipede or something before he got bitten by a like, I dunno.... this thing (flips to glass eel in the PDF). How cool is that?"

She uh, she tolerates me.

Man, I want to make a Trox that's a were-centaur in the worst way now.

I have located an entry about lycanthropy inside of Signal of Screams pg 45 " when a character survive's a lycanthrope attack the lycanthropy corruption May ensue. This corruption turns the victim into a feral Beast. The Civilized World becomes a straitjacket, restraining him from tearing anyone he dislikes limb from limb. Lycanthropy manifestations include the ability to shift into a bestial form with enhanced strength and senses. Silver burns the victim's Flash, and he finds it hard to resist effects that manipulate his emotions. The victim blacks out and wakes up to evidence of Carnage he has caused. Consuming doses of the poison Belladonna and slaying the lycanthropy's Source can alleviate this corruption.

Really, Starfinder? Belladonna? Does our FTL spaceship's doctor also recommend urethral mercury injections for what ails you?

Or how about a nice laudanum tincture for my dizzy spells?

Or maybe a Magical malady needs a magical cure. Which Belladonna is known for its use in folklore. Besides the fact that a good deal of medicines even in the modern day are derived from plants although after extensive extraction and manipulation. Would you prefer they call the medicine Lycosatril™ for those who won't let lycanthropy get in the way ( Please consult your Doctor to see if Lycosatril™ is right for you)?

We have super-magic-future tech. If a magical malady needs a magical cure in the far-future, then why would we need a plant that folklore says is good for the bad-fuzzies?

It's a weird anachronism that doesn't make much sense in the setting.

What of worlds with no silver or belladonna? Are they overcome with and ruled by lycanthropes in short order?

Well, then you have to death star that moon so nobody can change anymore. Easy peasy.

I would tend to think that, in Starfinder, even if belladonna still works as a treatment for lycanthropy, nobody actually uses the *plant*. Instead, they use the chemically and thaumaturgically refined active ingredient, in pill or injection form. Far far more effective.

It's left for us to clarify. The corruption templates laid out in Signal of Screams are ideas for the dungeon master to flesh out on their own. A root of an idea. Don't like part of it, discard or change it. Its not meant to be hard and fast like the class level structure, it is meant to help you brew your own creatures.

In the future, they can extract the active ingredient away from Belladonna to use on the Werewolf, weretiger, or any other lycanthrope. You don't have to actually use the plant.
