Online Diplomacy

Sovereign Court

Greetings,

I recently discovered playdiplomacy.com.

I love this game but many of my gamin buddies wont commit or wont play out of fear of getting stabbed :)

Anybody doing diplo online?

Years ago, there was a community around PBEM Diplomacy. It was organized through a website called The Diplomatic Pouch, which apparently still exists (and looks like it hasn't been updated since 1999), but none of the "Judges" (automated adjudication bots) seem to be up and running.

I actually found it better than F2F Diplomacy, as the E-mail interface made it easier to talk with people in general, and easier to secretly plot with people without others getting suspicious.

After a while, it became harder and harder to find a traditional game, with people gradually moving to no-negotiating versions (basically nerfing it into Risk), and I drifted away.

If there's a similar mechanic and pacing (generally 48-72 h for moves, 24-48 h for retreats and builds) on one of these sites, I'd be interested in playing.

Play Dip has many custom options. Typically, a game turn happens every 48 hours (with retreats and builds happening every 24 hours). There is a built in email system that allows you to email whoever you would like to diplo with.

They do have a variant called "Gunboat" were no negotiation happens at all. Each player just puts in the moves and you have to guess what the others are doing. Its kind of fun for a change, but is no supplement for good old fashioned diplo!
