I would suggest a modification to this class defining action. Beyond the extra small bonuses like perception, etc the main purpose of skill is to reduce the penalties of multiple attacks.
Well looking at the class feats it seems like this class defining skill is only worth it for dual wielders.
So if you take an animal companion and 100% focus on that you are already down one action. If you look at the feats many seem to focus on crossbow or some reloading actions (which is cool). But you can only fire your crossbow 3 times every 2 turns. And if you use a crossbow or sling and an animal companion? This really has zero benefits.
If you want to make rangers the sling/crossbow range class you need to modify this to give them a benefit (reduce reload time by 1 once per turn?).
Side note, all the feats seemed more geared to the sling and crossbow, yet the level 18 feat is obviously for bows. Either make your ranged feats generic for all or go all in for this crossbow style. Also, if you focus on that, suggest making a martial crossbow. Halfling rangers can use an awesome sling staff, why not make a cooler crossbow

I agree with you...
In fact, I have a really hard time to figure out the ranger right now. Hunt Target is nice but the lack of combat feat is quite disappointing, could the ranger dip into some fighters feat in order to enhance their weapon skills?
It seems like the current ranger has to choose between snares or animal companions, but there seems to be missing a martial ranger tree, with feats common with the fighter or something like that...
