Finally decided to make a thread here on the forums for my homebrew material. I'll be posting update posts every time I add something new to it. But for now I present to you the Promethean Shipyards as it currently stands with a short breakdown of what is contained within.

15 Races (Not counting subraces)
8 Gear Boosts for the Soldier
36 new weapons & 8 new suits of armor for characters
4 new construction options for starships
83 Starship designs
21 Dossiers for NPCs
59 Dossiers for PCs
7 new monsters & template grafts


Looking over it, thanks for posting.


Just noticed, you only have male/female as available genders in your random generator. There are species with other options (and I'm not even sure male/female are valid options for some, like, Maraquoi). Not to mention all of the other gender options for generally binary races. Honestly, I'd just remove it from the generator, but if you leave it, you may want it to be Male/Female/Other, or something.

Yeah I know about that I just haven't fixed it yet. Which I'll do now while I'm thinking about it. I made those tables for when I run out of ideas, or for when I'm just being lazy and don't want to decide.

Are you wanting feedback on the races or are you set with them as is? I don't want to be critiquing if that's not what you're looking for.

You can comment/critique/suggest as you would like. I will say now that I know I need to go back through the races and revisit them all. What's there right now is a rough translation of them from their Pathfinder counterparts.


Well, overall I like them. There was just a few things that seem out of line with other races in SF.

Like, the Firstborn getting energy immunity (even with the corresponding vulnerabilities) seems pretty OP compared to other races.

The Canidae and Golan seem a little weak compared to other races (though I can't honestly pinpoint why for the Golan, maybe it's because all the features are crammed into that one paragraph?). I think the Canidae need something oomphy.

I think the Research and Development class feature of the Kynet should be changed to a +2 racial bonus in the two skills (maybe with an addendum that they're always class skills rather than skill synergy. Since Skill Synergy is insight, it wouldn't stack with the Operative/Mechanic/Technomancer bonuses from class.

That's all I've gotten through so far. This is a lot of information. It's obvious you put a lot of time and effort into it.

Thanks for the comments so far.

The Firstborn were a little hard to bring across from Pathfinder but I didn't think it was because of that aspect. If it will help reign them in some I'll strike it completely from them.

The Canidae are one of my oldest races in terms of how long they've been around in my gaming experience. I'm not sure what I could add to them to prop them up somewhat.

I can see your concern about the Golan. I should probably break that racial apart in to pieces (at least two, maybe more). Also, might see my way to giving them something else as well.

As to Research & Development for the Kynet, I might take your suggestion on that front as it seems reasonable to me.

How is a patrol craft a freighter?
Have you turned the cargo bay into a temporary lockup?

I was trying to avoid using third party material for this design. However, if it is that much of a concern for people I can grab an expansion bay from Louis Porter Jr. Design's Infinite Space - Warp Speed! Expanded Starship Creation and turn one or more of the remaining cargo hold slots in to a brig. Though that would necessitate adjusting something else to allow for the BP expenditure.

Beyond that I based the size & hull of the craft on the image that I used or I tried to at least.

For a little bit of fluff in this installment I've gone and reorganized the Introduction and Locations files in to a Corporate Background & Information section. In addition to the aforementioned sections I've started to add in material concerning the military aspects of the Promethean Shipyards.

I'm just now looking at the book, but perhaps I can offer a suggestion on balancing the Firstborn a little more. Instead of an elemental immunity would elemental resistance equal to character level work better? Its still clearly better than a lot of racial bonuses, but it's not broken in my opinion and fits the characters quite thematically.

Just doing basic math, the average damage of the (level 19) Solar Flare Flame Doshko should would be 40. If you have a level 20 Fire heritage Firstborn with this racial ability it would instead negate half of the damage. That's pretty good for the player, but they still take 20 damage afterwards.

I did the math on some of the others and on average they would completely negate the damage from a (level 17) Zenith laser pistol. So its not perfect but still not too bad.

I offer this to help, but more to the point, I've only recently gotten into the groove of trying to homebrew my own races now that I'm comfortable trying. This racial ability is one I was specifically unsure about, and new I'd be asking for feedback about it anyways.

Firstborn

Dropped the elemental subtypes, immunities and weaknesses.

Replaced immunities with corresponding resistances equal to character level.


Maybe the Firstborn start out like normal humanoids, but by the time they reach epic levels they are somewhat immortal. Maybe that's what Marvel comic's immortals of the universe are like. They survived the death of the previous universe, and any kids they have have a chance to become immortals.

Pact Worlds now has a Brig expansion. It's 1 PCU/1BP Cost.

I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for. I hope it helps.

Drift Shadow Projector, is that a drift engine or does it create an illusion in the drift?


Its a jammer for drift drives.


It's an interdictor generator from Starwars. It lowers drift ratings in a given number of hexes and if it drops your drift rating to 0 you can't enter the drift.


Admittedly, the actual mechanics of how this works. . . will probably need to wait for when the supplement on ships comes out. Since as things currently stand, if your ship is stationary near to anything capable of mounting the thing? You aren't going to be making a jump anyway, due to being a sitting duck that will get the crap shot out of you.
