I'm considering running a game that I've wanted to for a long time - one that would feature the player character's having died, only to come back to life as undead. It would be a homebrew world that we'd build together, there would be a few templates / undead race options available. I'd probably only take 2-3 players. Any interest?

Hey Yoricks! Interesting idea, especially if you allow different types of undead and somehow manages to balance the party power :)
Hey Chess! Yeah - party power is part of why I'd limit the number of players hard. I also think it would make it more interesting - I want to stress the idea that this isn't a thing that ordinarily (ever?) happens, so most uses of necromancy wouldn't really be a thing. So no undead summoning more undead.
I also would like to be fairly open about what I'd allow for third party, which is another reason that I want to limit the number of players. But we'll use some custom undead stuff so you won't get the normal "immune to everything" that PF undead usually get.
PF or 5E?
PF, I'm not really a fan of 5E.
Would it be an evil game?
I almost said no, but honestly, I'm not sure how much I'd use the alignment system. I think how much of your morality you maintain from life would be one of the interesting things to explore. As someone who died and came back, how much would you care about the laws of the living? How much value do their lives have to you? Etc. I don't know that I want to shoehorn that into "LE, LN, CE" etc.
Most people will probably view you as evil, but you'd definitely have the opportunity to change their minds, or enforce that thinking. I'm thinking of kind of like how in Fallout all ghouls are discriminated against because of feral ghouls, but obviously that's not all of them. There are justifications people would have, but how based in reality they are is something we'd explore.
I assume it would be evil? would you be looking at some of the Way of the Wicked stuff in regards to undead like vampires and lichdom?
I probably won't be borrowing much from it since I'd like us to build a lot of the world together, but it could certainly go in a Way of the Wicked direction if that's what players wanted. I'm intending to leave it pretty open and sandboxy, so if you want to explore why this happened to you, you could. If you want to be a ronin and wander the world, righting wrongs, you could do that, too. If you want to say "F&*# it, I'm a god now, all will worship me", you could go in that direction with it.

I'd certainly be interested. Count me in if it ends up happening. Would you allow the dread undead templates from the Advanced Bestiary, as it opens up a lot more options for characters.
Unlikely, given how powerful they are. My current thought is that I'd create a few different custom race options and racial feats. I'm definitely into having options, I just don't want anyone to create anything absurdly powerful up front.

Yeah, all of the Pathfinder standard rules on Undead give them immunity to mind-affecting effects (including charms, compulsions, and morale effects), death effects, diseases, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, stunning, nonlethal damage, ability drain, energy drain, damage to physical ability scores, exhaustion, fatigue effects. Which makes them great enemies, but doesn't give them great balance for a party of players.
I'd likely keep some of the essence of the templates where I can, though. But of course the nature of this game is that you won't know why you came back, so there wouldn't be race options based on liches or vampires, more likely variations on ghouls and wraiths.

Oh man, I need more time on my hands. :( Dot for interest anyway!
Also, I never waste an opportunity to plug the death feats from Kobold Quarterly 10, pg.42. Technically they're for resurrected characters, but they're flavorful and easily converted into something for the dead, I think.
If it makes you feel better, I'm probably not actually recruiting for this for at least a month, and recruitment itself will probably be open for a bit. I've started to stat up the Dead Races (of which there are currently 6), but I have a lot more that I want to figure out.
Some of those feats are pretty cool! I may have to incorporate them.
