This was something I was interested in, mainly if other players (like myself) play a character to retirement and then create a new character related in one way or another to the character they just retired.
For instance.
Venture Captain Zeldana Asta (Level 13)
Human Female
4th Level Bard
1st Level Fighter
8th Level Pathfinder Chronicler
Zeldana Asta is a famed member of the Grand Lodge, having experienced much during her tenure with the Pathfinder organization. Late in her career, she visited the island of Averaka in the Linnorm Kingdoms and aided the Half-Orc society on the island. It was the resulting loyalty of Zeldana to the Grand Lodge faction, the Pathfinder Society and her overall Presitge and Fame that saw her granted the privilege of heading a Society Lodge before she ever became a Venture Captain (I spent the 50pp on the Lodge Vanity).
Years after she would embark on a grand journey and mission, leading into the very heart of the Pathfinder Society and from these trials emerge as a Venture Captain. She would go into semi-retirement, returning to the Autumnwatch Lodge in Averaka to watch over the lodge. She would also go on to mother children who would grow up in the Lodge and be trained to follow in their mother's footsteps and join the Society just as she had.
Those children are...
Thais Asta (Level 2)
Human Female
1st Level Bard
1st Level Investigator
Valon Asta (Level 1)
Half-Orc Male
1st Level Avaraka Arbiter
Calistril Asta (Level 1)
Half-Orc Female
1st Level ????
Story says that Zeldana claimed her children's father by knocking out a full blooded Orc in one punch during a drunken brawl. Though it's more likely that she bed one of the Half-Orcs of Averaka; which resulted in the twins Valon and Calistril.
Her eldest daughter, Thais, loves her siblings even as others view them as a perversion. She has decided to follow in her mother's footsteps and plans on becoming a Pathfinder Chronicler just as Zeldana had. All of her children seek to become worthy of the Pathfinder Chronicles in their own way just as their mother has.
I also plan on furthering the Asta name with additional characters as time goes on.
I even have Velarrior Ileor-Blakros (I completed the scenario that lets you marry into the Blakros family). I have his Half-Elf, Half-Sister Izora Ileor.
I also have plans for (3x) 'Ibis' Tengus, the Thothmoses lineage which will cover Thothmoses I, Thothmoses II, and Thothmoses III

I have a litter of kitsune going through the society at different paces.
The de'Bonaires: Keiki Kachisu moved from Tien xi to taldor to import silks and sell silks for the nobility of Taldor, and did well enough at it to buy her own title. She met a nice man from back home who neglected to mention a kitsune, and nine months and many hours of labor later she gave birth to a liter.
Dad now manages the other end of the silk trading route, and prays that the distance is enough to keep him from moms wrath if she ever gets a hold of him.
Most of the family were blessed at birth with birthmarks in their fur of the gods they follow.
Reynard
Reinhartd (these two are identical twins in a set of fraternal twins- a swashbuckler with a dip in dervish dancing bard and a dervish dancing bard with a dip in swashbuckler, though the first has gone pally)
Grr: the baby brother. A fox form fighting kitsune. Refuses to leave 4 legged form (baby, he was born this way) "Absoloms most adorable bundle of fluffy death" Wears a pink ribbon labeled "this end towards enemy". Worships gorum.
Heir: the oldest, most respectful and traditional pallyninja of iori.
Spare: Unchained rogue with an elven spear and combat reflexes. Caydenite that uses alchohol to mellow out. Even tanked can take out a room of ninjas surprising him.
Todd: Another Iorian, Lore oracle, more knowledge focused than punchy focused.
Lotus: Half sister of the family (The boys dad is her mom because.. kitsune) Likes to hypnotize the party fighters with her tail so that she controls them rather than the bad guys (and lets them borrow her +11 will save)

I have three siblings that started as a joke, based on the back story of my first PFS PC.
Venture-Captain "Mash" is a 14th level barbarian. His birth name is Reginald Bartholomew Brightsword VII, and he's the descendant of 6 generations of male paladins. His father desperately wanted a son to carry on the family tradition, but his wife gave birth to 6 daughters in a row. When the 7th child was finally a son, tons of pressure was put on young Reg to follow the family's footsteps, and he eventually snapped and rebelled. He became a barbarian instead, dropped the family name, and went by "Mash". He loves a good fight, but hated all the rules, so being a barbarian suits him. he's also nowhere near as stupid as he seems, but after years of being a disappointment to his father, he decided that it was better to be underestimated by everyone.
So when I later made a paladin and a cleric to good and holy gods, I ended up making them Mash's older sisters.
Sister Isabella Maria Victoria Brightsword is a priestess of Sarenrae (cleric 9), and the youngest of the 6 Brightsword sisters. Mash is her only younger sibling. She was actually my second Society PC, because I wanted to make a cleric, and a friend jokingly suggested that I should make her Mash's older sister. She's also the first female PC I've ever played in a table top RPG, though I've made several more in PFS since then.
Catherine Elizabeth Cassandra Brightsword is the eldest of the siblings, and a paladin of Iomedae. She had already begun he paladin training before Mash was born, and insisted on not giving it up now that there was a boy to carry on the family tradition instead. I haven't played her much, though, as she's kinda boring, and I later made a much more interesting paladin PC, so Catherine's only level 2.

Two of my characters now have kids with other players' characters. Yet neither of them is married. My characters live in sin.
The first was Skad (a.k.a. Escadreil Songwalker Acheron - he prefers the nickname), a multiclass inquisitor of Lao Shu Po who has two kids with his life partner Soular. Both myself and Soular's player grabbed one: mine is Sykni, the sarcastic pacifist witch/investigator, and the other is Sorelev, a blood-obsessed ninja. (I also made Skad's mother as a character after she spent some time as a running gag in our area. She's a Core elf cleric of Calistria. I've played her a total of once.)
The second is Orteil Sateriajis, a half-elf bloodrager whose only moods seem to be grumpy and angry. On his first mission, he offered some extremely tough love to Ronit Bolverk, a cowardly alchemist. He also offered her a princess carry down a muddy slope when she realized she couldn't get down it with her peg leg. Somewhere along the way Ronit developed a crush on Orteil, they share a house in Taldor, and at some point in the future they're due to have a child (we haven't really figured out the logistics of this yet). The child is a three-eyed mutant bloodrager we refer to as Monster Truck Child because they don't have a name yet.
The factor that combines these kids is that they've all been made as test tube babies in the basement of the Grand Lodge, in the chambers where they clone pregens.
Also Ronit's player and I made sibling sylphs, Flip and Vienne Bluefield - Flip is a magus, Vienne is a fighter with a dip of bloodrager. Neither has made their debut yet.
Oh, and my roommate and I have sort-of-half-brothers: one is an aasimar monk, one is a tiefling paladin/inquisitor/gunslinger. They were brought up in different families, so they've never actually found out they're sort of related.

I got Thonam III coming soon. Thonam Irongaze and Thonam II died during mission.
Dwarves live longer, so it's easier to assume they have adult children. Besides that I got no other characters that are related.
I was toying with the idea to bring back one Thonam as a phantom or something like that, but not sure how to do it.

I've got three.

Near the border of Taldor and Qadira... or maybe it's Qadira and Taldor... Qaldor and Tadira?... anyway, near the border of those two countries sits a small fishing village, home to the Haole family.
The oldest brother, Hepa, is a Venture Captain for the Society, and recently explored the Acadamae in Korvosa. (Barbarian 14)
One of the other brothers is Hemo, currently in service to the Pathfinder Society, after his brother Hepa sponsored him in. (Bloodrager 8)
Their youngest sister, Val, is making a name for herself in Absalom, as an amazing lounge singer. (Bard 1)
They have a cousin, Holy, who has a problem with Bandits. (Paladin of Abadar 1? I think? A friend of mine plays him, so I'm not entirely sure his level...)
I'm certain there are more out there, but they haven't ventured out of the village yet to make a name for themselves in Absalom...
|
This was something I was interested in, mainly if other players (like myself) play a character to retirement and then create a new character related in one way or another to the character they just retired.
I re read this and noticed there are different ways for working "family" in.
Things like "Haunted Oracle curse" is defined as their dead brother haunting them.
Vanities like herald are defined as pc's kids and eventual pc when the character retires.
Kitsume with a fox familiar whose a sibling? I like.

I have one character who ran all of the emerald spire and made a kingdom from it. My half-orc barbarian King Volug of Volugstien and he is lvl 15. I also have his son now Prince Volug who has joined the society to prove to his father that he has what it takes to be a future king.
My other family is huge! I have about 6 local players and friends who all have dwarves and we all share the clan name of Jarnbalkr. All of our characters start out with 1 level in drill sergeant fighter archtype with shield wall. This way we are all trained to be part of our clans famous dwarven shield wall. I think we are up to almost 12 different dwarves that are in the clan and most of us have a variation of the name Bjorn.

My PC's are from two large and diverse mercantile families who adopt new members to strengthen the family skill base and promote a bit of competition between "siblings" to strengthen their skills.
The first group is the Gallonica family, a trading empire based out of Cheliax with operations covering magical scrolls and healing, alchemical items, clothing, food, transportation, trained animals and magical beasts, security and diplomatic negotiations. Its members are currently engaged in a fight to become the new CEO (the first of them to reach level 20). The family sends any of its members who show sufficient aptitude off to join the Society to hone their skills in preparation for returning to work.
The Gallonica family currently has five actual siblings:
Antonius Gallonica (Half Elf Sorcerer 17): Current front runner, Venture Captain, Viscount, Hellknight Signifier, wielder of ridiculous amounts of arcane and divine magic (as a Razmiran Priest). Provides "free" resurrections providing you make a donation to his Lodge running costs.
Casomir Gallonica (Half Elf Oracle 14): The main face and chief family negotiator, a Viscount and Hellknight. A Lore Oracle with crazily high knowledge skills who considers himself the natural leader for the family.
Anariel Gallonica (Human Arcanist 10): Their little sister who keeps running off on adventures and getting into trouble, mostly to avoid being married off to stupid Taldan nobles. Loves shiny things, enormously expensive clothes and meeting new people. Utterly terrifying and remorseless to her enemies and those who hurt her friends (which includes all small animals, children and halflings, whether they want to be or not).
Torvald Gallonica (Half Elf Cleric of Erastil 9): The black sheep of the family, Torvald has taken to the society life with relish and rarely returns home. He is considered a disappointment but might yet surprise everyone. He is a fiery Orator and a great believer in the benefits of trade and the development of civilisation.
Logan Gallonica (Core Human Sorcerer 10): The youngest and most arrogant and spoilt of the siblings. Handsome and entitled he considers himself a natural born leader, those who disagree find themselves changing their mind given his fey born powers. He simply assumes he will take charge in time but for now he is enjoying the freedom to do whatever the hell he wants which the society seems to provide.
And a variety of people who have been adopted into the family:
Caleban Gallonica (Human Wizard/Bloatmage 14): An enormously fat flying man with a great love of pastry and, somehow, a Venture Captain although so far with no lodge to call his own. He was recruited because of his extensive knowledge of planar magic but tends to get distracted by new cherry glaze recipes.
Urko Gallonica (Half Orc Oracle 16): Was initially recruited as an Aasimar for the potential upper plane connections but an accident in the Emerald Spire turned him into a half orc. Is currently off world pursuing someone called Rasputin, considered a bit of a wastrel by the others.
Gunther Gallonica (Half orc Sorcerer 12): Protégé to Antonius, recruited due to his extensive contacts with the less than savoury sorts. An expert in infiltration, trap removal and the acquisition of hard to retrieve items.
Grave Gallonica (CORE Oread Druid 13): Recruited to help with large scale transportation across dangerous wilderness areas Grave has recently been appointed as Venture Captain. Experiences in the Vault of Orv turned him into an Oread and he is considering setting up a Lodge in the Darklands given how often agents end up getting sent there. Currently he mostly tends the gardens of the Grand Lodge.
Garam Gallonica (Half orc Witch 11): A disappointment to the family, he was recruited to provide some useful contacts in Irrisen and the north but has taken to the Society life and shows little interest in returning to business.
Jin Goro Gallonica (Half orc Oracle 11): Our first Tien recruit from Minkai, a somewhat unsavoury devotee of Urgathoa who was cursed by Pharasma. Recruited to help open markets beyond the Inner Sea but maybe not an ideal choice. Still he is a Trade Prince of the Exchange even if some people do think using skeletal mammoths isn't the best way of pulling huge caravans across the Crown of the World.

I noticed that age was brought up (as someone's family was mainly dwarves because they lived longer). I thought that I would also include the ages of the character.
Venture Captain Zeldana Asta - 43
Thais Asta - 21
Valon and Calistril Asta - 19
Then there's also her other children.
Unnamed Twins - 18
Unnamed Daughter - 16
As well as Thais' own daughter, a 3 year old half-elf.
Along with there also being some members of the Asta family that are adopted into the family though still treated and loved for as though they were blood related.
For Zeldana, originally she had gone into adventuring and joined the Society for fun, then when Thais came along, it became more of a means of taking care of her little girl. The Autumnwatch Lodge was a welcomed change of scene, considering Thais and her siblings grew up in their mother's Fangwood Keep for much of their formative years.
To answer the side question. I greatly enjoy the Pathfinder Chronicler class; that is partially why Thais Asta is being groomed to go into that class. It's special abilities let you get up to all kinds of shenanigans when you know what you're doing and do it right. The Deep Pockets alone is the best feature of the class aside from the Call Down the Legends, where you act like a Bronze Horn of Valhalla.

My -20 is Venture Captain Delaney, a rather unpleasant and fighter 9/rogue 4 Archer from our local core campaign who kept getting comments that maybe she'd lighten up if she got...a boyfriend *ahem*
Also from the Core campaign is my -27 Haywood, a Thassilonian "Love" Specialist Wizard who absolutely will put in special time with Venture Captain to get recommended for a choice assignment.
---------------
My -6 is Venture Captain Mea Culpa, the strongest wizard in the society, a dragon disciple with bard casting, 40 strength, and 6 starting intelligence. When she found herself travelling to the red place with all the red people, she picked up a funny little rat to be her wizard familiar. She has black dragon blood, and over the course of her highest level adventures she befriended and/or gained the service of a gold, a white, and a blue dragon. She and her party also sought out a number of pure-hearted and strong Thassilonians from pre-Earthfall Xin Shalast to save.
My -15 is Korasami, a Thassilonian Suli scaled fist monk trained by dragons to manipulate the four primary elements and make the most of her own elemental powers.
My -26 is H'k, an Ysoki rat-man (ratfolk) brown-fur transmuter Arcanist from the planet Akiton who is apprenticed to the strongest wizard in the society! His master hasn't shared her spellbook with him YET, but if he gets stronger and keeps chewing this red wizard bark she gives him, he's sure he'll get a peek at it some day.

My Gnome family started small and has grown well -
-01 Venture Captain Xar'Zith Zook Furrygem Nackl
Boreal Sorcerer/Cyphermage 18.
Master Jewelry Crafter
Uncle Abroshar Zook Nary'der Nackl
homegame Illusionist Wizard
Master Jewelry Craft
-15 Druid based Nackl still under development...
several home game NPC's related to the Nackl's. Two friends also has a couple PFS characters being cousins in the Nackl family (but not the Zook side)

All my PCs are connected in some way, but of the list there's a pair of siblings, two pseudo-adopted PCs, and one just connected with the family.
Micheal Schwartz (Human Gunslinger/Investigator 15) - Venture Captain, former Hellknight, and crusader of Iomedae. Currently works in the Nerosyan lodge, handling missions of a slightly shadier or more esoteric nature. Serves as a liaison between the Mendevian government and mercenaries, diabolists, Hellknights, pathfinders, the occasional demon cultist, real scum of the earth types that no proper Paladin would deal with.
Lucy Schwartz (Human Witch 11) - Younger sister of Micheal, and one of the Society's lead experts on Numerian technology. Currently in low-golarion orbit repairing the space ship she recovered from the surface of Aucturn's Tear. Despite a proven track record of nearly a whole week without being flooded with deadly neuro-toxin, the Ten continue to decline her offers of a tour. One day hopes to be the Venture Captain of space.
Knight-Captain Mariah Turner (Human Swashbuckler/Inquisitor 12) - Best friend of Lucy, on again, off again relationship with Micheal. Knight-Captain in the Twilight Talons, and Maldris's personal troubleshooter (sometimes literally). Currently operating in Egorian, spying on the church of Asmodeus, and "dealing with" any individuals that may become a threat to the republic. Currently retired from the Society, and has no plans of returning as long as the Chelish government still stands.
Ulric Thrin (Skinwalker(Coldborn) Fighter/Inquisitor 9) - Micheal's Eyes of the Ten protege, and loyal member of the Silver Crusade. Taken in by Micheal after his village was destroyed by rampaging demons, currently recovering following a grueling trek through the Darklands to rescue a clan of dwarves. One day hopes to properly rid the world of "heretical-psychic-b******t" (his words).
Irena (Night Hag born Changeling Psychic 4) - Micheal's AFI protege, who doesn't really want to be here. Spent several years picking pockets and harassing crusaders, pathfinders, and mercenaries alike. One day made the mistake of robbing one of Micheal's couriers, and was found out. Upon recognizing Irena's unusual heritage and undeniable psychic talent, Micheal offered her a job, as much to keep an eye on her as anything else. Between missions she pursues her passions; replacing the body of intelligence briefings with the full text of "Ninety-Nine Kegs of Ale," creating screaming bricks then hiding them in construction sites, and using Misdirection to make Paladins detect as evil.

In almost related terms: I've been aging all my characters one year every year and counting down the years to when my first retired (and dearly beloved) half-orc druid, Tyraxor el-Amin, gets old enough to have a kid of his own join the Society. Since half-orcs reach maturity at 14 and his backstory states he left home when he was 16, he's just about old enough to have a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old kid now. I haven't decided anything about said kid and I have a ton of characters right now (just made a whopping five first-levels recently, which should tide me over for three years or so) so I can afford to wait a few more to make that character.

My wife, our daughter, and I have the "Flying Flutterfoot Family Circus," a circus of (primarily) halflings that travel Varisia entertaining the masses with feats of skill, fortune-telling, and other carnival attractions. Pay absolutely no attention to any claims made that after they pass through a town, there are fewer slaves than there had been before ...
Our first PFS characters were
The Great Rinaldo! - my bard/cavalier who is now a 15th level seeker. Every combat ended with "You have been defeated by The Great Rinaldo!"
Messa - Rinaldo's cousin and partner in PFS, a ranger/cleric who is now the Venture-Captain of the Flying Flutterfoot Circus Travelling Pathfinder Lodge
Amira - our daughter's gnome druid, adopted in the family as the bear trainer (and originator of the "Suddenly, a bear!" tactic)
Since then we've added a number of others:
Mine:
Erasmus - (human in game, but half-halfling in character) peaceful Flowing Monk and cart driver
Uncle Phinneas - Varisian Pilgrim cleric of Desna who lets everyone know that they can escape those shackles if they just believe!
Milli - Archivist Bard and Pathfinder Chronicler, author of "Rise of the Flutterfeet - the life and times of Messa and The Great Rinaldo! (Pathfinder Chronicles volume LXXVIII)"
Hamfast - Acrobat (brawler/mouser swashbuckler) who wades into battle with a six-pack of reduce person potions and a swordmaster's flair to have normal reach
Dorothy's:
Ayden - Formerly Rinaldo's squire, now a cavalier in her own right
Rowena Edwina ("Rowdy") - Tetori monk and Milli's big sister - keeping Milli out of trouble is a full time job
Francesca - Warslinger (semi-retired due to errata, now returning with Slipslinger style!)
We also have Nillon and Lena Dardala, our married elven sworddancers and worshippers of Arshea. Now that they are retired, two of their half-elven offspring (elven worshippers of Arshea tend to leave a lot of them around ...) have joined the society: Tamri (also a dual sword wielder) and Zimmari (Kapenia dancing mesmerist).
And then there are the Bloodtusk Brothers, half-orc bloodragers. One is a gourmet chef, the other a mixologist. (For those old enough to get the reference, some of their character traits are based on "The McQuaid Brothers" from 21 Jump Street. )
|
Not a family per-se, but I have a Venture Captain named Nalshene who did a certain special set of scenarios and her official protege' makes reference to Nalshene at least once in every scenario she plays in. I've also had an awesome GM who brought my characters in as antagonists during one of the specials where you play as Aspis characters. :)

actually all but one of my characters are related. all the back stories are actively being tied together with remarks on what this or that brother or sister did last time they were here etc... hell I even have two members of that family being played by two other players (wife and best friend)
some day I hope to have people just randomly know of the grey family :)

I've gone as far as creating different family names. Some of which are Society characters, others are just played at my group's weekly game.
My'Tchell Ravenstrike was my first Society character, and is apparently part of a very large family.
Maybe I should create a few family trees and try to figure it out.
|
TOZ wrote:It's a branch family.well there WAS an affair...
The family wasn't happy about the marriage, hence the name change. Ambrose and Sita joined the Pathfinder Society to pay for a good Taldan education for the kids. The girls were interested in their parent's work after getting to know Junia Daciline and the Blakros girls. They all became very close after the slumber party at the Museum.
Ambrose and Sita agreed a couple summers accompanying their parent's would cure the sisters of their "heroic illusions".

I have a pair of twin Ulfen brothers Herger and Hrothgar Storhoi. One is a fighter 1/bard 7 Ulfen Guard member. As a thought experiment I made a different character with the exact same set of stats ("twin") and then I had a chance to start playing him. He's a Barbarian 1/Metal Oracle 2 currently. I had thoughts of having a younger sister shieldmaiden (myrmidon magus or fighter/sorcerer) but if that happens it'll be a long way off, as I rarely get to play PFS these days.

Several years ago, a group of players in our region created a family of Qadiran brothers - The Brotherhood of the Shifting Sands. Unfortunately, we haven't had our full group together to play in a couple years. It was also more fun when we were in the Qadiran faction and not Exchange. In every scenario, we establish trade deals to earn our family more income (not mechanically, but in a strictly roleplay sense). Making life miserable for anyone Taldan is another priority.
Our fighter types refuse to speak the common tongue, so all in-game communication is in Qadiran and we rely on our more charismatic brothers to speak with all lesser folk.
One of the main goals was to create a group of characters with teamwork feats, like outflank and swap places. Most PFS tends to be characters that are built uniquely by individual players. We built a well-balanced group that could end combats quickly and were a lot of fun to roleplay together.
Twins Mausum ("monsoon") and Toofan ("typhoon") are cavalier/rogues dual-wielding keen kukris. The cavalier dips grant them the ability to hand out teamwork feats to allies. They retrained rogue levels to Unchained rogue for more shenanigans.
Aasifa ("storm") is a cavalier/fighter who dual wields sawtooth sabres enhanced with lead blades from ioun stones.
Al-Ra'd ("the thunder") is our front line fighter with a tower shield. Social stats are all dumped, so he's not too bright. However, rescued a guard dog in Taldor, which he lovingly named, Puppy. He retrained a few feats and added a level of huntmaster cavalier in order to raise his own animal companion buddy. :)
Naar Min-Alfuuq ("Fire from above") is a grenadier alchemist who launches bombs with his bow. He can also hand out infusions to other brothers, like True Strike.
Sadin is our bard, translator, and expert trade negotiator.
Sahib as-Sahar ("master of magic") is a sorcerer specializing in toppling magic missiles, in order to trip enemies and allow our fighters to take them out quickly.
Ayser al-Hakeem ("Ayser, the wise") is a dual-cursed life oracle who grants misfortune on our enemies.
My character, Junayd ("small army"), is an APG summoner with a quadruped eidolon, Shaitan. Shaitan's appearance is similar to a crocotta/leucrotta. He taunts and demoralizes enemies.

I have my favorite society character, a Swash-Ninja named Kel Na'Yaa. He runs The Laughing Lizard (tavern vanity) as a mini-lodge and front for the Absalom thieves' guild. (Wait, what thieves' guild?).
In his tavern is Meralda Starstrike, a halfling sorceress who is also the bartender. Her brother, Hennet "Lucky" Starstrike, is too busy being a warpriest of Desna to hold down a day job, hardly ever visits, but they are both the children of a 3.5 Halfling Rogue/Bard/Shadowdancer and a Halfling Warmage named Mesmer Starstrike and Gradius Starstrike, respectively.
Kel may or may not have several children around Absalom that will one day take up the mantle of adventurer.
I also have my Kitsune Takkit Shinrou, who has a sister that will be making her debut into society play soon enough.

After meeting his "lifemate" in a mod.
"Hello, my name is Grog. This (mongrolperson) is my lifemate, Oomph. This is my son, Oops. This is my Daughter, Uh Oh."
After I had made the Charcters Oops and Uh Oh.
