1 person marked this as a favorite.

So my plan is
(and I might have mentioned this before in a passing comment etc since I've had the idea for ages, but real life always makes a liar out of me when I make gaming plans):

to use the various versions of the Ubiquity system for my homebrew High Fantasy world.

Now, unfortunately I am only familiar with Desolation, so I was wondering if its even a good idea.

From what I have seen maybe I can use naval and dueling rules from Regime Diabolique (my setting has a pirate/waterworld flavour) and most of the rest of the fantasy elements could be covered from Desolation with a few things from HEX maybe peppered in.

Do we have any experts on Ubiquity am I even right in my hypothesis of that as a working thing? I am now in the process of acquiring the rulebooks required..

I took your message to a couple of Ubiquity sites out there and here's the first response:

--------
It's all 100% compatible. No issues: the op should go for it without concern.

The biggest choice is which of the 2 approaches to magic (ritual versus open) to choose, and if a quality like Burn, Fatigue, or Sanity is required.

Ritual magic is in HEX, LoA/LoGH, QB
Open magic is in Des, AfO.

Thank you for the detailed response! I really appreciate it

Hmm, lets see:
I might use both. Open for most forms of arcane magic (the worlds style) and ritualistic and/or miracles for a type of divine.

Also no burn, I would like to show that this is the golden era of the world where anything goes and the heroes are or can be at their peak. But I'll have to see it in detail. I own the supplement for Desolation where the magic of The Before is explained (raw without burn) but I haven't read it yet.

The other question is, since I am not familiar with LoA and QB
is there something I could use from there? Something unique from the other versions? Skillsets, rules for underwater or naval conduct etc

Oh and btw; are we aware of Ubiquity QSR?

Apart from a few HEX ones I couldn't find anything else.

I suggest looking at some of the All For One supplements. They have a couple on nautical adventures.

QB is modern and doesn't have anything nautical that I have seen. LoA might have some things you could steal. There are a couple new skills (connoisseur comes to mind) but the LEagues of Gothic Horror book and its various supplements on dark magic and ghosts might be even more helpful to you.

I've done a lot of work on creating my own Ubiquity setting. Mine used mostly LoA, LoGH, and AFO. If you want something more fantastic you may consider looking into Revelations of Mars or Mysteries of the Hollow Earth, both have some different species/races that could work in a fantasy setting.

Thank you BatHobbit for the recent answers :)

I found and bought the AFO nautical supplement. So far it seems like I will be mining Desolations (and its supplements) and AFO (and its supplements) for my setting with whatever else I find on the side. It might take a while before I get the final system in place but I think it will be worth it

PS: though I am at the same time wondering why I didnt do the same with D100 and its variations (I am talking about Runequest and that whole family of games)

but I think deep down Ubiquity might be more closer to what I am searching for..
