Mage: The Awakening 2nd Edition

Other RPGs

The Second Edition of Mage: The Awakening was released today in PDF form. Mage: The Awakening is the third Chronicles of Darkness (formerly nWoD) game to get a second edition, after Vampire: The Requiem and Werewolf: The Forsaken (not counting the core Chronicles of Darkness rulebook). This release comes almost eleven years after the original Mage: the Awakening, and more than 20 years after the original Mage: The Ascension.

Personally I've never cared much for the Mage line of WW/OPP products, so I'll probably skip this one, or at least wait for a sale.

I'll be buying it when it releases as POD, if only because my plan is to eventually own a copy of the core book for each of the Chronicles of Darkness games, even if I don't particularly like that one. Purchase of expansion books will be limited to those games I'm really intending to play or just love to bits (So keen for Promethean: The Created and Changeling: The Lost 2nd edition! Hunter: The Vigil is also high on my list when it gets a 2nd edition).

Have they confirmed if they're doing Geist or not? Because if any of those games need a 2nd edition, my god it's that one. No idea what they were thinking there, that book had some of the most insanely awesome ideas, and was a really fresh take on the setting, but g$$+~~n it was a mess when it came to rules and editing. Never even got the additional books they'd planned for it.

...and it's now hit Platinum. Dang, OPP followed up a product which took less than two days to reach platinum with a product that took just under three days.

I don't think I've heard anything about it. My hunch is that they will do a 2nd edition of Geist, but not for another couple years given that they've waited 10 or more years for all the other CoD second editions.

I'd wager they're doing the 2nd editions of the CoD games in the rough order of popularity.

From what I understood the push for second editions had come because of the rules updates from The God-Machine Chronicle. And less than ten years or not, Geist is definitely the game that needs it most, given that it got royally screwed over during the transition period while White Wolf were being bought by CCP.

It's also the only game aside from Mummy: The Curse that predates the God-Machine Chronicle yet hasn't had a second edition announced

Would be logical, though I'd say they decided to get the big three (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage) out of the way first. If it was popularity from the start I'd have expected Changeling to be higher on the list, and Werewolf to be shunted down a bit. In my experience Changeling has always been one of their most popular game lines in the communities I associate with, Werewolf tends to be the meat popular of the big three. If it is popularity based though I'm surprised to see Promethean beat Changeling to the punch.

This isn't the same as 20th Anniversary Mage,is it?

No. 20th Anniversary Mage is a new edition of Mage: The Ascension, which is the Classic or Old World of Darkness game. This is the 2nd edition of Mage: The Awakening, the New World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness game.
