Hello folks,

1st, if any of my players in my crypt game are here, please turn back.

Situation & scenario:

I'm running crypt of the everflame.

The team has just won round 2 against the room with the bloody skeletons, after their first fight went bad. This is 'match 2'.

One of the PCs passed the check to identify the special qualities, and had mentioned them during the 1st fight.
All good, they now know they can't be truly destroyed unless special methods are used.

In my closure of the fight, i mentioned they wouldn't get up (ooc: for another hour)
This is 2 indicators the skeletons will get up again.

They now decide to sleep in the very room.....
If they sleep and not proceed, those bloody skeletons will get up close to them, of course. That is their risk to take.

Now comes the situation where i need those valuable 2nd opinions.
In the 1st fight, i ruled, when some PCs fled the room, the skeletons didn't finish off the stable 2 KO pcs, as skeletons are mindless and they did their job of defeating intruders.
In the unlikely case of them being beaten and all go KO yet stabilize, how would my fellow GMs have the skeletons act?
Kill them this time, or will their lack of intellect have the PCs get yet another chance at recovering hp over (a long) time and get up?

Personally i'd prefer fun over death, but they did ignore signs of inevitable danger.

Thanks in advance.

As this is a L1-2 party remind them about the special qualities of the skeletons and see if they take the hint.

There is no wrong answer to this or right one that always works.

Many of the groups I have GM'd for have wanted to take any repurcussions for their actions. As soon as any PC shows any sign of not defeated or not dead the skeletons would attack.

Some people play expecting* to win so for a group like that I might tell them that as long as they don't show any signs of life the skeletons will not attack them again.

PS: How are they not beating those skeletons? They are just normal skeletons with fast healing applied.

@ terry,
I did, by saying they won't get up (for another hour)

@ wraithstrike,
They have the ability to return to unlife after 1 hour, if not destroyed by positive energy, holy water on their remains, or destroyed in an area of bless or hallow.

They destroyed them via normal weapons...

Why do they not just... leave the place and go sleep outside? You could even give them the hint that since they haven't explored the rest of the area, there might be wandering monsters that could trip over them in the night. If they still don't get the hint that they shouldn't be sleeping there, they... honestly are kind of begging to be ambushed 45 minutes into their nap.

What I mean is why are they having a hard time winning the fight since they had to run away the first time? Is it because of bad dice rolls or were they already low on resources?

perception checks... OR DIE

You could remind them of different sources of Positive Energy they might have available.

A charge of a wand of CLW will put the bones to rest forever, as will casting Disrupt Undead or a Channel positive energy.

@ Rei,
Yes, terrible rolls for them, and good ones on the skeletons' behalf.

@ Auke,
From how i've read it, they have to reach 'destroyed point' via said CLW.
I've never seen trying a CLW on some scattered bones. As long as it hasn't reassembled, there is no actual creature to touch with it.
They don't have channel features nor disrupt undead either. :)

They made their knowledge check. So if you don't find casting CLW on the bones reasonable, just tell them they know they have to wait until the bones are reassembling and then hit it with the wand. The 1d8+1 will be enough to deal the necessary damage even if it makes its save. I'd even go so far to just let them strike off a charge per skeleton and be done with it.

There will be a lot more and a lot worse enemies to fight...
