Okay now I KNOW I need to get Magneto's helmet. This telepathy of yours is starting to freak me out...

I'd offer you some tinfoil to make a hat, but I need the rest of it to fix my suit.

No thanks. I trust Magneto's helmet!

Wonder if Luke Cage is gonna somehow cameo in this. Him and Rand are best buddies so building that up would make sense.

I'll be disappointed if he doesn't. There's been a lot of overlap in these shows so far... and I REALLY want more Power man and Iron Fist then JUST what they show on Defenders...

I actually have a theory that after Defenders Luke Cage and Iron Fist shows merge and we have Power Man & Iron Fist-series. But that can only work if Finn and Coulter have chemistry together that makes their friendship work.

I'm with Ros, if the chemistry isn't there, I don't see Heroes for Hire happening. At least not with Finn anyways. So far people like Coulter.

I'm still waiting for Ghost Rider Netflix.

I always thought Black panther was Marvels batman.

I hope that Finn and Mike have chemistry. I also hope Simone and Jessica have chemistry. I want a Daughters of the Dragon series!

Evan,

I totally want that. Especially since I loved Daughters of the Dragon.

Vid,

No that's Moon Knight.

I should be said though, Moon Knight is CRAZY batman.

The ailer/teaser with Colleen Wing in a cage matchis pretty cool.

Yeah that was good match for Colleen.

How is Batman NOT crazy?

By comparison to Moon Knight. :)

That's the joke.

Mmm good point Jeff...

Scarab Sages

Yeah, Moon Knight is crazier x10 Batman

Not really.. Batman is just more polite about his crazy.

I shall respectively agree to disagree with you, good Sir Freehold. In part because I've come to appreciate your intense dislike for the Whedon.

Heh.

I just thinking you know super rich (he does have his own country) and can defeat god like beings with nothing but tricky toys skills and wit. That might be a lot of characters huh?

Well yes and no....

But to me Black Panther is less Batman and more like "Guy that fights crime because he's a terrible king..."

Silver Crusade

As much as I'm looking forward to Shang Chi being a part of this, I'm really hoping to see Danny and Matt throw down with one another in The Defenders, whether it be a friendly sparring session or through a case of mistaken identity where each thinks the other is a ninja of The Hand.

I never got the chance to read the Immortal Iron Fist series, but from what I understand, it seriously expanded on exactly what he is capable of doing. Will any of that factor into the Netflix series, or will the writers keep it pretty basic?

I mean it wouldn't be hard to mistaken daredevil as a bad guy.

Vid,

It wouldn't for Danny, no. Others? Meh.

As for Danny's power set, nothing is set in stone regarding what the series will do.

Blayde - the Immortal Iron Fist run is top notch and really revitalized the mythos. If you get a chance I heartily recommend it.

I just bought it myself, and it was EXCELLENT.

Unfortunately I also bought Iron Fist: The Living Weapon on somebody else' recommendation and if excellent is the word to describe The Immortal Iron Fist (particularly the first part before the art style shifted for the worse) "unpleasant" is the word to describe Living Weapon.

That story left a bad taste in my mouth, particularly on the heels of The Immortal. It seemed like its sole purpose was to tear down everything good about the preceding work. It didn't help that the artwork disgusted me more than anything else, with some character designs being positively Liefeldian and everything just looking ugly and grimdark. With the exception of a few really great uses of shadow and negative space to sell fight scenes, the artwork was bad.

Sole caveat: The last chapter was great.

Agreed. Living Weapon is kind of a mess that is only somewhat redeemed by the ending.

The current run of Power Man and Iron Fist is fun (though they have some troubling characterization of Jessica Jones early on). The 2010 run was not good and I do not recommend it.

I'm a huge Iron Fist fan, so I'm going to watch this no matter what, but I think it looks pretty solid.

I don't know Iron Fist all that well but Netflix has been killing it with their Marvel TV shows, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Yeah excited for this one DD was a bit low key barely pushing super in his fighting. Luke was virtually unhurt-able. This will be the best one for choreography I'm willing to bet. Bruce lee with super powers! (If I remember correctly Bruce was the inspiration for iron fist.)

Vid,

I truly hope the fight choreography will be better than I've seen in most TV shows.

For brawling which is bascially what Daredevil is the choreography for Daredevil is fine. Most of the time Matt is just hammering his way through guys and that works.

Danny Rand is a formally trained Martial artist. As he's trained in multiple styles I've always imagined his movements to be fluid, natural while also hard and devastating when it needs to be. For a TV show Id imagine that it needs to be closer to Sonny from INTO THE BADLANDS than what it looks like so far. This is if we're using another TV show with the budget and time constraints and that brings with it.

If we're talking martial artist/actors I think more Jacky Wu Jing in Fatal Contact than his fight vs Donnie Yen in SPL.

Shin would know. After all he is a Wing Chun Master. ;)

Silver Crusade

Maybe they're taking a David Carradine approach. Remember, he wasn't a trained martial artist when he portrayed Kwai Chang Caine, but he got by initially because of his training as a dancer. Now, I don't know if the Knight of Flowers has that going for him as well, but I hope his "demonstration" of martial arts is better than what we've seen as well.

I am pretty rusty now, but I used to be a Wang Chung Master.

I actually used to know a wing chun master. Last I heard from him, he was teaching in Birmingham, Alabama.

I was trained by someone who did wing Chung many years ago. I really need to give up the ghost and do some old man Kung fu and call it a day.

All I know is I can't do any martial arts forms to save my skin. That's why I'm a paladin.

Granted I might be aging better, but what you were taught is pretty damned effective at any age.

So, in prep for watching the show (and because I've wanted to for years) I've been reading the old Power Man and Iron Fist comics (the 1978 to whenever run). They hold up a lot better than I thought they would, actually. Iron Fist himself is...really corny, which I didn't expect after reading The Immortal Iron Fist. He was goofy there, but egads he's every lame superhero stereotype and then some as far as dialogue ("Stop villain! Or I will harm you greatly!" type stuff) in some issues. It's unfortunately easy to see why his book was cancelled in favor of a merger. Having browsed some of his solo stories they suffer from being interesting plots executed...okay, at best. I was pretty surprised that Sabertooth first appeared as an Iron Fist villain though.

It's fun reading some of the editorial pages though.

Reading stuff like this:

Quote:
WELCOME!...Denny O'Neil...Daredevil Writer (and penciler) Frank Miller who, with only a few scripts to his credit is being compared to the likes of Chris Claremont. Most likely Frank will admit that Denny is a genius who helped him tremendously and then say "Too bad he's older than Yoda", Being (gasp) 40, Denny gets kidded a lot by the spring chicken type Bullpenners (Frank's twenty-four)...

Is kind of surreal.

And of course I get to experience the (in)famous Hostess advertisements first hand.

Lol. Comparing Miller to Claremont might be a sign of intoxication though.

Yeah that's kinda what I really liked about Wing Chun it's a pretty effective and BRUTAL fighting art. It's not something that you really want to teach children for building character or anything like that (even though you CAN). I mean it's designed to PUT DOWN your opponent. I've read articles where a sifu WONT teach young kids because he'll basically be teaching that kid to HURT other kids...

I love one of Iron Fist's corny habits from when Byrne was writing him, of describing / naming the various martial arts moves he was performing, usually with over-the-top names like 'Five Dragon Kick' or whatever. I'm not sure I'd want to see that in the series, anymore than I really wanted to see Luke Cage running around with the tiara and yellow shirt for half the season of his show. :)

I loved that in Immortal Iron Fist and his stint in the Defenders. Danny mostly didn't yell out what he was doing like Ryu from Street Fighter, but each panel had a label for the move.

Some of the Prince of Orphans moves had seriously brutal names.
