Question on Delirium's Tangle, bossfight.

Hello all,

In the text on the boss Abysiel, it's mentioned he casts obscuring mist on himself if engaged in melee.
Also that after his opening spells he casts ray attacks.

Here comes my predicament, he's cast the obscuring mist, but that would hamper his combat efficiency, wouldn't it?

Or does his fusing with the machinery allow him to ignore the concealment?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, some tactics don't make sense optimally sometimes, but some of those times may be for balance (First Steps pt1), although some are just poorly thought out. Unless the PCS invalidate the tactics, then let it go and know the guy probably won't ray things for a few rounds.

It will take some time before he is actually engaged in melee.

The catwalks are quite difficult to traverse (even more difficult if you use the pendulums to hit them back to the ground).

What tier are we talking about?

He should also be able to operate his attacks blindly, if I remember right.

<sigh> I wouldn't know... The only time I ran it the flying alchemist made his perception check and went in a surprise round and first in the full round and bombed him to death before he got to do anything...

Auke, we're talking tier 4-5.

However, with fast moving monk who auto passes required acro rolls, and a roc ac, he's been forced into mist very early.

Only dmg he can effectively deal without aoo is the pendulum.
So somehow this fight will be over very swiftly.

@Eric: I played it low tier using a brand new guntank gunslinger. First turn, closed in, fired a single musket shot and rolled a Nat 20 and a Nat 19 to confirm. GM botched the light fort roll and dealt enough damage to kill him outright.

We were running behind, so the GM was a bit shocked, but didn't mind in the fnd.

You can use the Pendulum twice a round instead of casting a spell! ;-)

Yes?

I thought it'd be just 1 spell and 1 machine move.
That could change things.

It's a move action, you can take two move actions

2/5

That part i know, of 2 move actions.

It's more that i would think that he'd use one action to cast and one machine action.

Grand Lodge 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Baltic

Normally yeah, but if casting is ineffective, you can opt to machine action twice.

Lucky them.

The time I played it, everyone in the party but me was a heavily armored tank without any missle weapons. (In their defense, most of them were first time players.) Fortunately my monk was able to navigate the catwalks pretty easily, but her damage output was so low the fight took a long time.

My samurai used up all of his resolve in that fight and stabilized on the catwalk after desperately throwing a javelin at 0 hp. It was a great fight.

Too bad about the rest of the scenario.

Last time I ran it, Ezren hand of the apprenticed his staff at the boss. Critical hit, end of combat. A delightful end to a scenario that was delightfully roleplayed (and by convention players too!) except for that one part where we just sat around rolling dice.

Oh? They did run into some frustration in the labyrinth and were at round 12 or so with the water flood. 2 of them retreated, leaving 2 to figure the smart door puzzle.

Oh yes, one got eaten by the mouther in the 'nightmare world'.
The relief upon revelation he didn't quite die.... :)

I can't complain about the events, despite current boss fight progress.
