The power of words, and Disney Princesses

How things are said in Disney "Princess" movies

I was reading this article today and found it simply fascinating

Someone, with a lot of talent, and time on their hands, should research Pathfinder APs and see how many words are put into the NPCs mouths (of course we all know that the DM will take what is given in the modules and build upon it, but even so...) and how that is broken down

Scarab Sages

2 people marked this as a favorite.

So after reading this, I thought back to the only AP I have played through full, Mummy's Mask. Its chock full of female speaking NPCs, most of them important.

Spoilering below for MM:

Spoiler:

Speaking Roles, removing outsiders and irrelevant undeads, not listing people who you probably will never speak to or hear speak, aka to be killed immediatelies.

Book 1 (F):
Sebti the Crocodile, HP of Pharasma, runs the lottery
Velyriana Hypathexes, Taldan Adventurer, rival

Book 1 (M):
Random bad guys? Nobody stands out in my mind.

Book 2 (F):
Sebti
Lamias
Matriarch of Dark Folk
Crystal Dragon
Priestess at the Gates
Heiress and Grandma at Auction
Various at Auction

Book 2 (M):
Voice of the Spire who wants to summon psychopomps
Ol' Eye Taker
Local Cult Boss
Ptemenib, major minor character
mumia junkies
Nebta Kufre, book 2 boss

Book 3 (F):
Muminofrah, the Pharoahs' "BFF"
Deku an-Keret, governess of Tephu
Medusa in library
Thraie in-charge of hive
Snake-Lady boss of the book
Cat-Lady ally

Book 3 (M):
various cultists, and cult boss
masculine voice historic texts

Book 4 (F):
The Forgotten Pharoah, major antagonist
Girtabrilu warlord
Crusader Ghost
Caravan leader
Shaitan boss with female art

Book 4 (M):
winged people leaders on both good and bad sides
the glabrezu had a pretty masculine feel
various girtabrilu and cultists
Efreeti with male art

Book 5 (Can't remember):
Boss of the pyramid

Book 5 (F):
Sebti
Stone Maidens

Book 5 (M):
The guardian of the Slave Trenches shaitan
Pteminib

Book 6 (F):
the Herald skin ripper lady, majority of enemy exposition in book
Shory Ghost
Queen Neferwhatever, mini-boss

Book 6 (M):
The thumbs down guy in time warp
Hakotep

Female NPC's seemed to dominate the campaign, particularly in roles of relevance. From the lists of NPC's, social interaction takes a plunge in books 5 (1 dungeon and 1 uninhabited ruin complex (other than 4 listed NPCs)) and 6 (5 dungeons). I probably missed something, but at least for Mummy's Mask, female NPC's get the lions share of speaking spotlight.
