Welp, the movie proved profitable and popular enough that they are making another one
They did pick one of the better novels to adapt though.
Thoughts?

Jack Reacher: I'm never going back....
semi-non-spoiler:
The trailers for JR2 were preparing me for a very different experience than JR. My assumptions were correct to lower my expectations. JR2 lacks several elements that made the first film fresh and enjoyable. First, the "Jack Reacher" moments are not as slick, entertaining, or fun as the original. A real missed opportunity. Secondly the mystery is incredibly simplified taking away the anticipation of a thrilling investigation and villain showdown. Ultimately, JR2 is Jason Bourne meets Taken which is really just too damn bad.
I will say the focus on Reacher being alone and how thats affecting his relationships with people was an interesting element. I understand that was supposed to take the place of an intriguing criminal investigation, but it wasn't enough to make this an above average film in the end.I give it a C, or 2 stars out of 4.

Saw it last night. I learned many important things I never knew before:
Spoiler: "Military bearing" is not a thing. On-duty senior military officers and NCOs stand around shaking hands, striking exaggerated poses, waving their arms around, emoting and up-speaking, and otherwise acting just like goofball civilian teenagers.
Female military personnel are all very slinky and have arms like toothpicks.
If a civilian off the street asks a military lawyer what someone was arrested for, there is no confidentiality issue if they share all details of the case, and hand over copies of any relevant files.
If you want to infiltrate a military facility and are wearing a uniform, DO NOT march military-style. Instead, creep around with an exaggerated "stealthy" gait so that no one will recognize you.
Military brigs are very easy to infiltrate and to escape from, because you just say "open the door!" and some fool does it from a remote terminal without bothering to look.
There is no camera or satellite surveillance anywhere in Washington, DC.
Wherever you are, public buses roll up to you whenever you need them, and then pull away right before the bad guys can catch up to you. This ability is usable at will.
If you jack your arm way up in the air before you hit someone, the blow lands with irresistible force and can stun or kill a person.
If you're on the lam with $300 in your pocket, the clothes you escape in will be magically replaced with beautifully-tailored, fashionable garments for the next scene.
Jack Reacher's sense of direction is so good that if he's in an unfamiliar city and you yell something like, "Carter Street," he will immediately wheel in that direction and start running.
There is a U.S. Army base in New Orleans! It boasts an unguarded airstrip that you can get to just by driving through a flimsy chain-link fence. Uniformed military personnel stationed there immediately develop thick, fake New Orleans accents.
