So I've officially run my first game. Mists of Mwangi. The group had a great time and many Night at the Museum jokes were made. We ran it at tier 1-2.
Giving out the Chroncile sheets I looked at what was available for completing it and my question is what about the other stuff? Specific spoilers ahead:
The undead in the 2nd rom even at level 1-2 had a couple of masterwork weapons or speciality weapons. And Nigel gives the group a spear even at 1st level but there is nothing on the sheet about these items? So even if the group says they are grabbing them do I say, no? Lie and tell them it's nothing?

If it isn't on the chronicle, they can still use it during the scenario. However, after the scenario, only chronicle items are still accessible (and for the listed cost). If something is given and not on the chronicle, it's usually (in my experience) because it's Always Available (like a masterwork weapon).
Essentially you are giving everything to the Society that you recovered, they give you the gold reward, and you have access to most, if not all, of what you turned in. That's why, in some scenarios, you may actually not even get all the items on a chronicle because you didn't find that item. The scenario will tell you when this is the case.

The spear is a rare and fragile antique that is "worth a great deal to the Pathfinder Society .. to include it in their collection". The PCs are required to hand it in to the Society, will be paid its gp value and given Prestige for it as part of the listed reward and it's unlikely it would be allowed to be taken out on missions.
Players can buy an equivalent of the Qadiran Warlord's scimitar, as it's Always Available, and can say it's the one they found if they like. In effect they can forego part of their cash payment to keep part of the divided loot that the Society doesn't specifically want.

You can buy a masterwork greatclub (from the CRB) or masterwork bone greatclub (from Ultimate Equipment) similarly.
Since the jade-carved kukri is not on the Chronicle, a player can't get a weapon with its special properties. The Society requires this unique item to study (and it may come in handy, considering a couple of later adventures). An obsidian kukri would be a legal purchase from Ultimate Equipment.
