Help friends; I'm completely lost here. I thought there would be plenty of threads explaining this, but I can't find one. After you've decided for whatever reason to part ways with an online campaign, how do you go about it mechanically?
Whatever you do, do NOT just "disappear" from the game.
I would go to the discussion thread and let the group know that you are leaving and ask the DM to "uncheck" you from the players / characters list. If there is a specific reason you are leaving, you could PM the DM and let him/her know why or if it is a generic, don't have the time anymore, then just say that in the post.

Thanks David. That part has already been done. Our GM has become pretty slow about posting (I'm talking one-to-two weeks without explanation) and although we've talked about it the situation hasn't improved since the start of the year. But now that I know the GM has to tick a box, I can just wait until he turns up again. I thought maybe I had to do something. I'm a GM myself (table top games) and I wouldn't just stop turning up without explanation.
The GM doesn't have to uncheck you. All that does is take it out of your "active" campaigns and put it into "previous campaigns" on your "campaigns" page.
If the reasons have already been stated, then just leaving with a farewell post would be sufficient.

What if the GM disappears? How can you remove the campaign from your active ones?
Hide the gameplay, discussion and recruitment threads and I think that it will go away.
Not sure you have to hide all three, perhaps just the gameplay, but it has been a while. You could also send the DM a PM and ask him/her to mark the campaign as inactive.

If you hide the gameplay thread on the main messageboards page, the game will also be hidden on your Campaigns tab.
Also, if the GM disappears, a game will go inactive and move to Previous Campaigns automatically when three months have passed with no posts in the gameplay thread.
