how do you feel about a game that is set 500 years after X event

im just spit balling here, I really want to GM a sandbox style pos-apocalyptic. I just need to choose a way to take it...I am leaning toward having this be a 6E game and have it be gestalt...

plant life has taken back the world but there is still some reusable tech

sentient robots are a danger

some people want to fix the world

some think the technology of old should never be used again since that is what broke the world

some have discovered magic again but its not that powerful.....if anyone has read the book The warded man {the demon cycle} maybe something like that

I welcome any and all input for this ^_^

and since I know that there has been quite a few games that have began and lost the GM right at the start of the game. I assure you that now that I have extended the my contract I will have no issue posting every day during the week ^_^

Shameless*bump

Looking for some help...

Well I guess never mined then....

Well, you're not doing peak hours here. Also finals. I imagine this will get more response in time.

Anyway, low-magic pathfinder gestalt are always a bit of a funny thing, because the majority of the classes in the game are focused on spell-casting, more or less. Some of the rest, like the paladin and the ninja, aren't spell-casters per se, but focus on magical abilities, which also plays funny with a low-magic world.

Would the world just be low magic in fluff, but people can still play whatever?

You could also try to use d20 modern. Maybe keep the pathfinder money and magic items, since wealth has receded over the years. That lowers the power level a lot, just by inhibiting classes.

Or, if you're set on pf, that works out fine too. It's easier to make a gestalt party when it isn't low magic though, because then you don't have to have a party of a slayer//Brawler, Barbarian//Rogue, Cavalier//Fighter with a token Oracle//Sorcerer, which gets tedious because everyone looks like each other, or the revers problem of the Wizard//Magus, Paladin//Sorcerer Bard//Cavalier and Druid//Monk where one has to explain why all these individuals that all have super rare powers somehow ended up in the same place by coincidence.

Just my 2 cp. Looks like fun. I'm always game for e6.

Oh yaa I dont have to give up ^_^

no the players are the few who have a strong connection to magic as most of the world now knows its real but to actually see it is way different. What I'm trying to say is NPC would believe something is magical if say a person said it would rain and it did, well he/she must be a shaman.

all magical weapons found would have history to them and be important.

as

the burning sword of justice "Thalandor" a +1 flaming sword used by the great knight Sir. Calgrim to end the life of the evil demon Xiltak in the battle of California in the year 2352...ect...something like that the low magic would be the e6 part and how there now resurrection when some one dies

All right, so it's not that the heroes don't have magic, it's more that e6 limits how much it can do. Jesus-scale magic, as opposed to O.T.-style Flesh to Salt, Earthquakes, moving seas, plane-shifting and, you know, flooding the entire earth. 9th level spells.

Besides, Do you have an idea of what sort of plot you'd like to have going on? Sandbox seems to imply that there won't be a quest in the traditional sense - slay the dragon, topple the empire, that sort of thing, but perhaps having an arc that's going to go down might add some atmosphere at least.

It sounds like we're going for the US, but how has the apocalypse affected the climate/geography/ecology? This doesn't neccesarily need to be 100% fleshed out, but you should probably at least decide on an apocalypse, and what sort of groups managed to survive. Also how long it has been since the world ended.

As an aside, I really liked what the Partials Sequence did as an alternative to the classic nuclear war, but perhaps it wouldn't work so well - it was largely played for the mystery, and that can be hard to get across right.

Anyway, what levels were you thinking of going for?

I like anything gestalt. Sounds like shadowrun maybe the feel your going for but using pathfinder but even further to where civilizations have fallen to the savage planet. So massive wild beast and plant monsters keep people to secluded fortified areas. There could be big cities underground where plants can't survive. This could lead to thinks like subways and what not still in use in cities as the major form of getting around. You would still need to keep the beast out though.

Shadowrun is pretty tech-intensive though. I can't see running anything remotely like a shadowrun game like what Bones is describing. It seems more fall-out to me. Or perhaps even something like Nights of Viljamur, where there's tech, sure, but its relegated to 'magic', because no-one sodding knows how it works. Doesn't see use, and no-one knows how to use it even if they wanted to.

ok so what I have been thinking a mix of

1, most of humanity has receded to a tribal/ nomad like society, its not safe to stay in one place to long since most of them can't win against the roaming death bots, these are manly an issue close to big city since there is still working power plants but the machines have them. No one that gets to close is ever seen again...

2, there is still some well fortified places in big places manly old military forts. most all "guns" people can use are repurposed from old world tech.

3, I might be adding some mutations here and there...don't know about this.

4, I might have it be only human as the race...

@Ashe
I like your idea about plant monsters could use that

as of now I don't have a idea on how the players would start, with most of my sandbox games the "quest" cmes to me from what the players do

oh I just saw this maby something like this...

Hmm. If it isn't supposed to have been a nuclear apocalypse, mutants are a little off-theme. Law of conservation of detail and all that.

On a side note, that video is supremely awesome. Let's do that.

ok im going to start typing up my requirements I will be going with a world like the one in the video I placed ^_^
