I've got a game starting tomorrow, and my GM ok'd primal companion hunter, 20 point buy, any race. What are some interesting things you can do with evolutions on an AC at level 1? One thing that jumped to mind was take slam attack and improved damage slam on a horse AC. Since that does 2d6 damage when you're large, with increased damage it bumps to 3d6 + str which is pretty good for first level! Any cool combos I should be aware of?

By the way, it you're planning to run a highly optimized melee Hunter I suggest going for a "weaker" animal companion so you don't get asked to reroll.
I really suggest something with only one natural attack.
I say this because with a big cat you'll have a ridiculous routine that's both highly accurate, high in damage, and farms AoO.

Big Cat without question. Even now that any animal companion with 4 legs can get pounce via a feat, the other options for primal companion are all pretty eh and Big Cat is still one of the best.
Yeah...but that is mostly in the early levels. Their main advantages is that they do not need to spend evos on their abilities, and they are always on. But those eventually become moot as you level, since it is a minutes/level ability (or fights/level, basically, since that is 10 rounds)
I could easily make an anklosaurus with 6 attacks and pounce, and it still has a fantastic and UNIQUE stun ability on its tail. Everything the tigers get, you can buy off with evos.
