Musket Master questions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

3rd level Musket Master with a basic musket. I am DMing the, "Emerging Guns," rules aspect.

A single barrel 2 handed firearm takes a Full Round Action to reload.

A Musket Master at 3rd level can reload a 2 handed firearm as a one handed weapon, which turns it into a Standard Action to reload.

With Alchemical Cartridge, it moves down a step, the reload becomes a Move Action.

And with the Rapid Reload Feat the reload is reduced again to a Free Action.

Do I have that all right? AND if I have that all correct, if the Gunslinger takes a Full Round Action, can he get 2 shots off per round? Or is it one of those, "logically he could, but RAW, he has to wait until 6th level when it shows an additional BAB."

NEXT question - If he goes with a double-barrel (does not have one yet), and he fires off both barrels, does he roll once for both shots, or twice? I thought I read somewhere it is twice with the second shot having a penalty to hit.

THIRD question - if he has Feats that apply additional effects to the double-shot (both shots at the same time) do both shots gain the benefits of the effect or only one?

Yes if he have rapid reload and rapid shot he Can fire twice at level 3. With a ok High missfire chance.
Dont use double-barrel guns they are the main Reason gunslingers have a bad rep. With a single barrel musket he Can be a strong damage dealer with a double barrel he Can be twice as strong. And you dont want that.
By RAW there are no rules that says that he dosent get every thing to every shot. Again dont use them.

Cap. is correct, although you could allow the double barrelled gun if you say that the 2nd barrel can only be used with the rapid shot firing, or with an iterative attack.

If you do allow it, both shots fired simultaneously get the minus 4 penalty. But then you'd be allowing a total of 4 bullets when using rapid shot and 6 once the musket master gets his first iterative!

The way I am reading it, he could get three shots off in a single round with the double barrel (if he had it) as he would only be able to reload a single barrel of the double in time.

By RAW, a free action is a free action, and he can reload an entirely-theoretical 200-barreled megamusket just as fast as he can reload a regular musket.

House rules are house rules and can be whatever you want, I recommend making it possible to use a double-barreled gun as a standard action (so you get 2 shots and a move in exchange for higher misfire chance) because that just seems balanced to my completely arbitrary and subjective sensibilities.

Edit: to go further, the rules DO state that the DM can determine how many and what free actions are actually allowed, but that's right next to "the DM can house-rule stuff". Multibarrel guns do require separate attack rolls and offer penalties, it's in the weapon description. Combat feats regarding ranged weapons also need to be paid attention to as there are several which specifically say "bow" rather than "ranged weapon" and don't work for guns.
