As long as we are off on book tangents, maybe you guys can figure out this one. This is probably a series of books that dealt with the west probably written sometime between 1960 and 1985 (yeah, I know, pretty big span there).
I think they were about Daniel Boone, but I've never been able to pull them up again. He had an adventure about the big wilderness, the river, and other items. They had one where they had to get Salt Pork, he always had on a leather like outfit with fringes hanging down from the sleeves if I recall. They were varied from beginner readers for the really young, to probably books fit for a third or fourth grader.
It was an entire series of books. I don't believe it was based off the Disney series at all. Daniel had brown wavy hair, probably a little longer than ear length if I remember right.
I have NEVER been able to find it, a google search doesn't seem to bring it up, making me wonder if I remember the name right or not. It also may actually be older then the time period I mentioned, that's just when I remember running across them (and if you were around then, I believe the specific place was the Olympia Washington Library, if you were around there during that period).
As I said, I don't believe it was based off the Disney series, but it was a series of books.
Though it may not have been Daniel boone, it may have been Davy Crockett, or some other name.
Don't have a ton of hope of someone finding it, but hey, it can't hurt, I've never been able to find them since.
