So, we were having a discussion about parenting and horrible parents, and a friend said that they should be giving out permits for parenthood.
It would go something like this:
A couple that wants to have a child must go through background checks, psych evaluation and credit rating checks before being issued a permit.
Hightest priority would be on the psych eval. If a couple is deemed not to be parent material (let's face it, a lot of people aren't) no permit.
If the couple is too poor to support a child, no permit.
Anyway, I know it's not really humane, but on the other hand, why do people who, because of a genuine inability to have a child by themselves, adopt have to go through similar stuff and be denied a child becuase of some reason? And they might be amazing people who would raise a child wonderfully.
While, a couple of horrible people who have working reproduction parts can?
Thoughts?

Going to go ahead and lock this one. We're really not comfortable facilitating a conversation that exists solely to disparage people regarding their decision to be parents or disposition as parents. We welcome people from all backgrounds and this kind of topic doesn't contribute to the fun/friendly environment we'd like to have around here.
