So my Pathfinder Chronicler just hit level 12 - getting him ready for the retirement arc and now it's time for me to figure out how my Call Down the Legends ability works in PFS. For those who are not aware of the ability, it functions as a bronze horn of Valhalla.

So the question is - May I build myself a barbarian to use? Am I limited to using a NPC Codex or GMG barbarian? If you feel I should be using the pre-gen barbarian stats, what if I don't own either of those books - may I use the rules for my character off of the PRD without buying the books? What, precisely, are the rules for a horn of Valhalla in Society play? Thanks in advance for your help, I'm finding this to be a bit of a head-scratcher.

There are sample statblocks of Horn of Valhalla barbarians on page 39 of Classic Treasures Revisited, if it helps.

It also apparently addresses the problem of raging construct barbarians (constructs don't generally benefit from morale bonuses, which is what rage is.)

Good to know - but what if the player (in this case myself, but there could be others!) doesn't have Classic Treasures Revisited? Asking the hard questions because PFS needs to know!

well, the answer you don't want to hear is "then he will need to get that book to use that power."

I would like to have a better answer for you, but I haven't been able to find one. I will look a little more.

Firstly, I'm jealous. I've been considering a Chronicler myself and I wish you best of luck.

While that is normally true the Bronze Horn (and the Pathfinder Chronicler) is from the Core Rulebook. Theoretically everything in that book should be usable with no other books except possibly Bestiary 1.

Since you are playing Eyes of the Ten, I assume you know who your GM is and will have the same GM for all parts. I would work with the GM to create stat blocks ahead of time. If they happen to be the same as the stats in CTR, so be it. Just make NPC barbarians, don't try to cheese it up, and it won't create any problems. You're at the level where (even in PFS) the GM is going to have to make a lot of judgement calls.

Why not use 4th level Amiri?:
Because she's way more powerful. 20 point buy and PC wealth by level far outstrips NPCs from the Horn. Though honestly even multiple 4th level Amiris are just cannon fodder against level 12+ enemies.

Hence why I am hoping to find a better answer, because I agree the other one is unsatisfying.

I suppose if someone popped this on me mid game, I would probably go with level 4 Amiri, but possibly with her equipment reduced to level one Amiri's equipment as a compromise.

[qoute=Horn of Valhalla]Summoned barbarians are constructs, not actual people (though they seem to be); they arrive with the starting equipment for barbarians. They attack anyone the possessor of the horn commands them to fight until they or their opponents are slain or until 1 hour has elapsed, whichever comes first.

Well, that answers what equipment they have.

Melee NPC:
Heroic:
Str 15

Kinevon, I assume you mean pick three of those feats?

Also, is that stat array including a racial bonus?

Whatever number is appropriate.

I was setting Human, and, per the table in the CRB's Creating NPCs, that is the stat array, Humans get no modifiers from it. And I typoed it, too, it looks like.

Str 15
Dex 13
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 8

Heroic stat array, no mods for humans.

You missed an asterisk. Humans get +2 to one stat, gm's choice. You also missed "add +1 to a stat for every four levels"

so since these are barbarians, thy should probably have 18 str or 16 str, 16 con.

What I get for rushing and doing this at work.

I am only human. Usually. And mostly harmless. Usually.

Give me the wrong scenario/module, and the wrong party, and you can see the PC Died checkboxes filling up.

2 or 3 dead in Shipyard Rats
1 dead in Black Waters
TPK in Crypt of Fools
TPK in Accursed Halls

Makes me afraid to run the topmost level of Emerald Spire, since, with the wrong party, it can be ugly...

And, in three table credits, I will have access to Bonekeep. Fear me, ye players!
