No Evil threads are not a living thing and according to the Core rulebook non-living non-sentient things don't count.

Barry the Secretly-Homicidal Paladin: I DETECT EVIL ON THE THREAD! IS IT EVIL!?!

GM: Err...I guess so?

Barry the Secretly-Homicidal Paladin: DECLARE SMITE AND CHARGE!!
