Help Me Find A Suitable Module

Liberty's Edge

I am looking for a quality module in the 3-5ish range that has a play time of around 8 hours.

Where I run PFS games we have been forced to change our times from a five hour block to a three hour block. This has put the kaibosh on continuing to run Season 5 as we have been so the alternative we have come up with is to run a PFS sanctioned module that we can break up into roughly two and a half hour blocks. We have four more PFS days to fill with this module before we take a hiatus and my business partner and I open the doors of our brick and mortar store. Once that happens, we are going back to PFS with Season 6.

I originally thought of doing Feast of Ravenmoor because I love that module and already own a copy but it really doesn't have enough material to fill the requisite number of sessions. I looked at Carrion Hill but I don't know how long that runs and if it will do the trick.

What do you guys think?

Huh. You play WAY faster than I do!

I think that may be the difference between the time limits inherent to a PFS game vs. the more relaxed play style of a home game. I don't play PFS, so I'm not sure how much, if any, of my experience will directly apply.

My non-PFS home group needed six (or was it seven?) 4-hour sessions to complete Feast of Ravenmoor when I ran it two years ago. I think we spent an entire 4-hour session just at the town picnic alone!

For that matter, we needed three 4-hour sessions last month to play a slightly-modified version of PFS Scenario 4-01: Rise of the Goblin Guild.

Since I'm running these as home games, I'm under no restrictions about making changes to content-- which I almost always do. Since we have no time limit, the players can really sink their teeth into the role-playing aspect. I also let them go off on a tangent and will just wing it if they want to explore something that isn't developed in the module. (I'm remembering the time during the play of The Skinsaw Murders when the PCs decided to spend the day at the Magnimar Zoo for a full play session.) Of course, my players are the kind that are happy to run a full session or two without entering combat at all.

That said, I haven't yet run Carrion Hill, but it sure looks pretty meaty.

I don't know the PFS rules, but if you can chop up a module across multiple sessions, would it be possible to split a PFS scenario across two play sessions, and continue with Season 5?

Liberty's Edge

When I ran Feast of Ravenmoor I converted it to World of Darkness and we played it in about 4-5 hours but that's no real indication to the run time. We figured it would probably run in about six hours and we need a tad more than that.

In our PFS games we run tables anywhere between three and a half to five hours depending on the scenario. Home games do tend to run longer, as you mention and is likely because they are more relaxed, as you suggest.

FoR is a fantastic module and I'd love to run it in its intended system, but I just don't think there is enough content to fill the space we need.

I've been looking at Fangwood Keep also, since it's a more traditional site-based module and those are more predictable in play time. The Midnight Mirror also looks really interesting.

We ended up going with Feast or Ravenmoor. It will probably end up running a little shorter than other, meatier modules but that works out okay for us since we have pretty limited time frames to complete it. Plus, it's an awesome module.
