So, we're a couple weeks out from seeing Skinsaw cards. I think it's high time we began to engage in baseless? speculation about the contents of our new set.

I'm pulling most of this from the Rise of the Runelords AP itself, so I'll spoiler it to protect the innocent. I'll be talking about things from the adventure that I think we'll see in the set.

Spoiler:

I expect we'll see haunts as a new barrier type. Maybe barriers defeated by Wisdom/Divine?

I theorize the scenarios will probably be something like:
Murders in Sandpoint
Scarecrow field
Foxglove manor
Magnimar
Shadow Tower

I totally expect to see Skinsaw man, Justice Ironbriar, and Xanesha as villains. I am also unreasonably amused at the thought of having Aldern Foxglove in my hand while fighting the Skinsaw man.

New monsters: faceless stalkers? They might be henchmen.
The Foxglove manor scenario may have haunts for henchmen.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking that

Spoiler:
Foxglove Manor will probably be the "weird one" out of the set, and that the Haunts will be the primary bad guy. Maybe there will be some kind of mechanic where you have to "stack" haunts next to the scenario card and only encounter the Skinsaw Man once you collect enough of them.

Also, I'll bet there's some horrible penalty for ending up with Aldern Foxglove in your hand during the scenario -- he should get Banished at the very least!

I hope Xanesha is really hard to fit with the RPG ;-)

The question I wonder is ... about when will it ship to subscribers!?!? :) My wife is chomping at the bit.

She also really wants the expansion to arrive.

Heh-yo!

Here's one that would truly preserve the differences in difficulty of this charming iconic AP villain.

Xanesha:

BOSS

Roll 1d6. On a 1 or 2, fight Pett's original Xanesha. On a 3 or 4, fight Xanesha from Skinsaw Murders. On a 5 or 6, fight Xanesha from Anniversary Edition.

Pett's Original Xanesha--Villain
Combat 30 then Combat 30. If your check does not have the Fly descriptor (from a Fly spell or effect) or the Ranged descriptor, reduce the net result of your check to 0. If undefeated Fortitude 10 or be petrified (you do not act on your turn, just flip over a blessing from the blessings deck until someone uses a Stone Salve or Flesh to Stone spell on you)

Xanesha from Skinsaw Murders--Villain
Combat 20 then Combat 20. If your check does not have the Fly descriptor (from a Fly spell or effect) or the Ranged descriptor, reduce the net result of your check to 0. If undefeated, Fortitude 6 or be petrified (your turn ends and you may not explore on your next turn).

Xanesha from Anniversary Edition--Villain
Combat 10 then Combat 10. If undefeated, Fortitude 6 or be petrified (your turn ends and you may not explore on your next turn).

Oh are we making up ridiculous stats for Big X now?

Big X
Arcane or Divine 10 then Combat 20
If Big X isn't the only card remaining in the location deck, place her at the bottom of the location deck before encountering her.
Before the encounter pass a Fortitude 7 check or discard your hand.
Combat damage from Big X is taken from the top of your deck instead of your hand.

If the poor player that encounters her feels like "WTF is this?" then the spirit of Big X has been captured.

Spoiler:
I mean really. Flying, spellcasting, draining Wisdom through her spear attacks, like a 28 AC against 6th level characters. Criminy.

And I think the third version captures the AE incarnation of her.

There is already a petrification mechanism in the game (see the ghouls). You don't lose a turn, but you lose your hand.
