Liberty's Edge

I'm slowly getting back into the rpg. I like what I'm seeing so far except:

Creating a splinter faction of Comstar then portraying them as stereotypical fanatical terroists with nukes. Really. I mean really.

I liked the fact that some factions were joining forces and allying with each other. Apparently the devs think otherwise. I suppose it was too hard or boring to continue doing so. Federated Commenwealth we hardly knew ye.

The collapse of the second Star League. Was it that difficult to write material for it. Did we really need to see the different factions in Battletech once again going around destroying each others tech and facilites. What was the point of being lost technology back only to lose it again.

A quick question any difference in the technical readouts between companies. I know Fanpro then Catalyst acquired the rights to the rpg. I'm asking because I can get some used.

The Catalyst versions of FanPro-printed TROs generally contain corrections and fixes to the older versions. The newer TROs, like TRO3075 and onwards, contain units using ever-newer technologies (like the Blakist-designed Variable-Speed Pulse Lasers).
That said, TRO3075 also has a bunch of units for each major power, and a selection of Periphery units, that date back to before the Succession Wars, and indeed in some cases to the Age of War! The Taurian TR-A-6 Toro, for instances, is a 5/8 35-ton ’Mech with six tons of armour, a PPC, two LRM/5s, and two tons of ammo.

With the release of TRO:3145 and Era Report: 3145, the ‘current’ timeline has advanced into completely unknown territory, beyond where the former “MechWarrior: Dark Age” material had written up to, and now we’re waiting to see what new and wacky things are going to happen next.

If you find you’d rather explore BattleTech’s past than its future — say, perhaps, you’re more comfortable with the established powers and rivalries you knew from your last time through the franchise — a wealth of historical products have been released over the last couple of years.
Historical: Reunification War was devoted to the fight between the newly-founded Star League against the Periphery States in the late 26th century.
— Three books, Era Report: 2750 and Historical: Liberation of Terra (volumes 1 and 2!) have given more detail to the late Star League era and the actual events of the Amaris Coup, and more products are slated to add to the picture of things as they stood just before Stefan Amaris sent the whole Inner Sphere spiraling into the chaotic mess we know so well.
(For instance, this thread discusses the artwork of a previously-unknown Capellan WarShip due to appear in Field Report 2765: Capellan Confederation, which is a pdf-only product due out Very Soon; other Field Reports will summarise the military strengths of the other four Great Houses.)
