PACG as gateway to Pathfinder world / fiction

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

As a disclaimer, I've never played the Pathfinder RPG, but I'm really interested in getting more into the world after playing the card game. I've already looked into the Rise of the Runelords anniversary book, but I'm actually kind of overwhelmed with the sheer volume of other STUFF that's associated w/Pathfinder.

So my question is, where should I go next? The "Tales" books? Other Adventure Paths? Is there anything that's more like a broad guide to the world and major places/characters/events?

Thanks!

The Inner Sea World Guide would be a good place to start as would a lot of the Player's Companion line. These contain a lot on mechanics but are some of the best source of backstory/fluff available. The Tales also should be a good place but I can't say from experience, sorry.

Another way to get the info is to play with someone who reads as much of it as possible, a rules lawyer type gamer. Trust me he'll be more than happy to explain what card was influenced by what and what storylines follow this and that. In think I've made my non-gamer friends sick of hearing it.

The Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition is great if you want to see all of the details of the original story behind the card game.

Beyond that, as J Scot Shady said, the Inner Sea World Guide is pretty much the "bible" for our campaign world of Golarion and includes a giant poster map of the Inner Sea region. The much smaller Inner Sea Primer also gives a good overview of the world, but as it's a primer, it has a lot less detail than the Inner Sea World Guide.

Lastly, if you're interested in the Pathfinder RPG, I'd recommend the Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box. It's a great intro to the game and the world, and includes a few things that will be familiar to players of the card game - namely, the iconic player characters and an adventure starring Black Fang. The Beginner Box also easily transitions into the full Pathfinder RPG if you want to keep going.

Thanks for your suggestions! I think that Inner Sea World Guide will be my next purchase.

I don't know if I'll be able to convince my group to try the RPG proper, but if I do I'll report back and let you know how it goes. :)

There are supposedly going to be some audio-books based on the Rise of the Runelords storyline sometime at the start of 2014. I don't remember the details, but they sounded pretty awesome. They are made by the same people that make Doctor Who audiobooks.

Yes, Big Finish (the company that does the classic Doctor Who audios) will be releasing full-cast audio adaptations of Rise of the Runelords starting in January.

That sounds great! I'm assuming there aren't any audiobook versions of the Tales books then.

In don't care what the experts say:
This is a "gateway" drug! It is not safe or harmless.
This weekend I introduce my lady to the game. "Another junkie is made."

Not at this time, no.
