The one thing you can do is retrieve the character's name and faction assigned to that PFS number.
Do it by going in as if you were about to report a game, and their details will show up when you put in their PFS number. (Pathfinder Society logo > My Pathfinder Society > GM/Event Coordinator tab > Report.
Good point on what's the point in writing out a description people can't easily access though, something for website feedback !

The point of the pfs numbers is so that GMs/Organizers can report tables played. That way Paizo knows how many unique players there are and can gain a lot of valuable (to them) data. That's the only real reason to report, so that Mike and company can see how many are playing what.
Players can add as little/much as they like to their characters. A lot of online play uses that info as character sheets.
One point of adding characters is so that when organizers DO report, the information is auto filled in. It can get quite annoying to have to type in names of characters and what faction they belong to over and over.

o.O
Hey now... Look, the reason why I would like to look them up is simple. I'd like to see what the players have played and purchase mods accordingly. I'd like them to feel that someone does care enough to read what they've posted and Try to be a proactive GM.
I do understand where GM's can be jerks about it, but this isn't one of those situations. I'd rather use said option in the Spirit it was published in. Which is to have access to information to be a better GM.

Yeah, unfortunately like Mystic Lemur mentioned, only Venture Captains can see what players have played (and Paizo people, of course).
Best way for an organizer to keep track of scenarios is to keep a spreadsheet, unfortunately.

There are a couple of printable and/or electronic sheets floating around the interwebz to help players and organizers keep track of what has been played.
As a GM/organizer, figuring out what scenarios would satisfy the largest number of players is definitely a challenge, but it is one that is best solved by collaborating with your players so that they can voluntarily provide you with the information that you need.
Someone with more web skills than myself could probably even set up a shared private page for your group(s) where players could input their games played, make requests and then you could figure out what to run next.
