This came up in a game earlier this week:
Can Ezren (any character, really) use both a weapon (such as Quarterstaff) and a spell (such as Force Missile) on a combat check?
In the Ezren example, he would have d6+d6 (Quarterstaff) plus d12+2d4+2 (Force Missile).
On the surface, it seems to be overpowered, but seems to be within the rules (1 spell + 1 weapon).

I think (love this game btw!!) Rule book page 11 says only 1 per check.
Some cards may allow you to replace the required skill for a check with a different one;
you may play only 1 card or use only 1 power that changes the skill you are going to use.
Your changing the Combat check with the spell Force Missile (or any attack spell) from the normal Combat check so I read it as 1 card only.
So if you choose a weapon card, that's the 1 card for that check, also if you choose a spell card for that check then that's the 1 card for the check.So that would mean any spells that say "For your combat check" could not be used, like Force Missile and Acid Arrow together, or a weapon and a spell with the card text "For your combat check".
Unless Vic or Mike say otherwise... Lol

So adding to this discussion, would it be okay to use a spell, say, Acid Holy Light then cast Guidance to use it? I would think that the spell Holy Light (and others with similar wording) make it a different check and a spell like Guidance acts as one of the boons that you can add to the check.

No, that would be using two spells to affect the same check. Holy Light lets you use your Divine die, but it's the same combat check as before.

That makes sense. Thank you for the concise answer!
