I have a sixth level Inquisitor of Erastil with the Animal domain.
The only other casters in the party are a sixth level Dirge Bard and a Psychic Warrior (Dreamscarred Press version, and barely counts as a caster).
I have a fellow companion that is hauling around his prior body in a gunny sack while he is stuck in a new body.
We're stuck out in the wilderness days and days away from any kind of "purchased solution" to the companion's rotting corpse dilemma.
Is there any way at all for the Inquisitor or the Dirge Bard to gain access to Gentle Repose or any other kind of preservative magic at seventh level which we should be hitting fairly soon if all goes well?

Nelson's crew used a barrel of rum, but when they returned to London, I guess they couldn't find a cleric willing to cast resurrection.

Alcohol is a natural antiseptic, which would prevent bacterial decomposition. However, it would also soften tissues making them easier to tear if disturbed. Baring access to a scroll, however, this might be your best option. Not that I'm entirely sure where you will get a barrel of booze from in the middle of the wilderness.

The Enhance Water spell (from Faiths of Purity) should do the trick just fine!

How did he get the new body?
Why does he need the old body?
Why does it need to be preserved?
He received the new body from a Magic Jar type of effect that didn't work out right.
He wants the old body because a male goblin barbarian doesn't want to live the rest of his life as an icky human female seductress.
It needs to be preserved so that he can actually someday inhabit his old body again without being very zombie-like.
From the sounds of the responses, it sounds like we're pretty much hosed with getting access to Gentle Repose.
That probably brings me to my second line of questions.
So...exactly how does one go about getting their soul stuffed back into a corpse permanently if such a thing can be done? Is this going to require something like a limited wish?
Maybe it would be best to wait for a death in the new body and do a Resurrection with a portion of the old body considering the component cost for what amounts to Limited Wish (1500 gp) + Magic Jar (100 gp) + Permanency for Magic Jar (15000 gp)?

The Restore Corpse spell ought to be able to put the decomposed body back in order. Follow that with a Purify Food and Drink, and the line in RC about the meat being mostly rotted is addressed. Those two spells can manage a human-sized corpse, so a goblin-sized body should be fine.
Keeping part of the old body handy, killing the current body, and then Rezzing with the old body part ought to handle the issue.
