Help me build a character for Feast of Ravenmoor

So after exclusively being the GM for what feels like years I finally get to pass the reins to one of my players on Sunday to play in his Feast of Ravenmoor game. It's going to be a one-shot that's intended to let him test the GM waters.

Concept in one sentence:
My (yet nameless) character concept is an intellectual, borderline-smarta** bureaucrat sent from Magnimar's Office of the Lord-Mayor to investigate the disappearance of his predecessor.

Background:

He was born into a Korvosan noble family and has imbibed the lawfulness of that city from his infancy. As a noble born, he had some training in the courtly art of fencing and was even sent to the Acadamae for a while but the only class he really enjoyed was the art of scribing scrolls. He proved to be a serious bookworm and interested in anything written he could get a hold of, ranging from pulp adventure stories, almanacs, Chronicles, to obscure arcane treatises.
However, he felt bored by the petty feuding of his fellow classmates and the noble families in the city. It just seemd irrational to him. So he decided to do as some of his ancestors did and move to Magnimar where he found happiness in the tedious profession of a clerk at the Lord-Mayor's Office. His work brought him into contact with a lot of foreign stories, old accounts, history books, long-forgotten laws and lore, and inspired a certain curiosity for the world beyond the City of Monuments. When he heard about the mission to Ravenmoor, he (uncharacteristically) spontaneously volunteered to join.

Mechanics:

human(chelaxian) bard(archivist) 3

Ability scores yet unknown, but from high to low:
Cha
Int
Dex
Wis
Con
Str

Feats:
Cosmopolitan (Skills: Survival, Heal; Languages: tba, tba)
Lingering Performance
Scribe Scroll

Traits:
Emissary
Fencer

Skills:
At least one rank in every knowledge skill
At least one rank in Profession(scribe)
As many different skills as possible

If Hell freezes and I'll get to play this character to higher levels one day I would go for the Pathfinder Chronicler prestige class.

So bottom line:
To any of you who have played or run this module, I would like some spoiler-free, Player's Guide-style advice on a couple of choices:

What languages might be useful in this module?
What types of opponents might we face a lot? More humanoids than monsters or the other way around?
What kind of spells would be a flavor- and useful choice? Would mind-affecting spells be of any use in the modul?
We get 3000 gp starting gold, what magic items would you suggest that fit the flavor of concept?

I know those are questions I should ask my GM but he's not available until Sunday so I turn to this wonderful community.
I am not looking for optimal choices, I am merely looking for useful and flavorful options that will make this concept work in a memorable way.

Q: What types of opponents might we face a lot? More humanoids than monsters or the other way around?
A: Monsters? This is a routine visit to a harmless farming community... what could possibly go wrong?

You say you want "spoiler-free" answers. ;-) Its a great module... just stick to your original character concept- its a good one; relax and enjoy the module as it is a good one.

Well, as you can probably imagine, I am pretty psyched about finally getting to play again. So right now I am kind of overthinking every little detail. As a result, I am just a little concerned that a very humano-centric build (relying on mind-affecting and diplomatic interactions) might turn out to be utterly ineffective and keep me on the sideline for the modul.

If what you're saying is, it won't, I'm already happy. Still I'd appreciate any more piece of advice I can get.

Haha, an Inquisitor of Desna would be really interesting for someone to run through this module.

Yesterday we had our first session and it was a blast. I see why an inquisitor of Desna would be fun but my concept totally worked as well.
Thanks for your input!
