[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Twenty-Third, Kailin vs. Ritti

Play-by-Post

There's a new combatant standing across from Kailin and Sunahl as they enter the arena, and not a particularly imposing one. The crowd seems to have taken a near-instant liking to her, however, and there's some sort of glint in her eyes.

Kailin A10, Sunahl A11, Ritti L10.

ROLG THE RED

A tallish, skinny-as-a-stick-figure female halfling practically skips out of the dark entrance to the south. Her clothes are a garish mish-mash of brilliant flowing silks, and well-worn but well-made studded leather armor can be seen peeking out from under them. A dagger and spell component pouch hang from her belt.

Her dark hair is cut short, and fly-away spikes dance as she turns her head to take in the crowd... throwing them a winning smile in return for their warm greeting. She flicks her small scimitar in an ornate flourish to them as a wave, then turns to regard her opponents.

Her grin remains, but her eyes take on a considering look, even as she quips loud enough for her voice to carry to the crowd.

"Apparently the thought of letting a 20 pound slip of a halfling girl win is so appalling they sent me two big, strapping, testosterone-filled gladiators." She spins into some kind of dancing, spinning flourish, ending in a low, crouching stance with her blade pointed at the half-elf. Her tone gets serious, "Though this is the one time i will offer it, so consider it well. Walk away now, and I won't send you and your snake to meet the Dawnflower."

Arbiter:
Initiative 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Initiative 24

Diplomacy (to win crowd favor) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Male Half-Elf

Kailin and Sunahl step out into the arena, the rigors of their previous match gone, and looking once again ready to do battle. As usual, he has little more than a katana of fine quality and armor, along with a crossbow that has yet to see use in his battles.

At the halfling's banter, both of them stop and raise an eyebrow, giving each other a quizzical look. After a moment of silent communication, Kailin shrugs, and Sunahl sets himself back down for battle while the half-elf draws his blade.

"I think not," he says simply, toward Ritti.

Arbiter:
Kailin's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Sunahl's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Pretty much impossible for me to beat your Initiative, but...
.
Ha, 18 for both of them. You're up.

ROLG THE RED

:: Surprise Round ::

The wiry halfling continues her spinning flourishes, moving slowly forward, joking as she moves. "That mean, therefor, that you are not?"

She winks at the stoic half-elf as she spins to a stop, flicking the first two fingers of her out-stretched, palm-up hand in the universal sign for bring it.

Arbiter:
Activate Battle Dance

5' step directly forward.

Kailin's up. This should be interesting.

Male Half-Elf

Kailin rolls his eyes but gives a wry chuckle, while Sunahl makes his first comment since entering the arena, with a simple and sarcastic, "Well, aren't you clever?" in a deep yet clear voice.

Kailin mutters some magical words, and presses his hand to the snake's back, a blue aura passing over Sunahl's scales before fading out. The serpent then moves forward, slithering through the sand.

Spellcraft DC 16, nothin' terribly special:
Shield

Kailin stays where he is. Sunahl moves to D10. Ritti's turn.

The crowd cheers at the posturing and banter, then settles down as the bloodshed seems to draw closer.

This is really cool so far :D

ROLG THE RED

Spellcraft:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

:: Round 1 ::

"I've always thought so," the halfling retorts before wiggling her fingers at the half-elf, winking at him, then vanishing.

Spellcraft DC 16:
Vanish (surprise, surprise)

Perception: DC 43 for Sunahl; DC 47 For Kailin:
Through some crazy feat of awesome, you echolocate her to be in K-7

-----

Arbiter:
Free to maintain dance
Cast Vanish (1 of 2 rds)
Stealthily Move to K-7: stealth 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (1) + 34 = 35

Cast spell, then for the rest, you'll need some skill checks. ;)

Kailin/Sunahl's up.

Male Half-Elf

:: Round 1 ::

Arbiter:
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

A growl from Sunahl cuts off into silence as the Halfling disappears, and the snake goes low to the ground, seeming to listen and watch for signs of movement. Kailin, meanwhile, makes the same gestures as before, placing the same spell he put on Sunahl moments ago onto himself instead.

That done, he settles back against the wall by the entrance he came out of, simply waiting. Sunahl moves back and adopts a defensive position nearby.

Arbiter:
Sunahl will ready an action to bite if he becomes aware of Ritti, and she's in range.

The spell is the same as before (I'm sure you know what it is even without spellcraft though). Kailin 5-foot steps over to A9, while Sunahl takes position at B10.
.
Also, I totally want to play Hot/Cold on your class and/or archetype to see if I'm close on what I think it is XD
.
Anywho, Ritti's a go.

I'm fine if you'd like to do that, but I'm fairly certain it'll be obvious by the time we've wrapped up here. :D

:: Round 2 ::

The sounds of Kailin's own arcane intonations, the crowd's rumblings, and the slither of Sudahl are all that ring in Kailin's ears.

Perception: same DC as last time:
… except for the sounds of someone casting a spell somewhere to the southwest.

Perception: same DC + 20:
… and your uncanny hearing places them in K-07.

---

Arbiter:
Free to maintain dance.
Begin casting Sleep, with the intent on targeting Sudahl. It will go off at the beginning of next round.
Vanish: round 2 of 2 (will end at the beginning of next round, luckily at the same time as the completion of the Sleep spell.)

Nothing obvious, though some truly mind-boggling Perception checks could change that (see above)

Kailin's up. :)

ROLG THE RED

Sadly, i think you and I are on opposite schedules, Darkwolf. :(

Male Half-Elf

Yes, it does seem that way sometimes, huh? :/
.
And pfft, yeah, they're not getting those Perception checks. Honestly, even while invisible, I'm surprised you're getting such high ones. Sheesh O_o
.
:: Round 2 ::

Kailin continues to hold his position for a moment, then walks over to the side along the wall, Sunahl following after him, both on high alert.

Arbiter:
This time they are both readying actions to attack if/when Ritti becomes visible.

Kailin moves to A15, while Sunahl moves to B14. I'll assume they didn't bump into you :P
.
Ritti's up.

My first thought is Bard, perhaps with the Dervish Dancer archetype. You don't really need to answer of course, I'm just musing :P

ROLG THE RED

Darkwolf:
Very close.. Dawnflower Dervish. :D

Across the arena, barely visible between a sliver of space between the two columns between Kailin and the halfling, she appears (in K-7). He barely has time to notice as a spell assaults his and his snake's mind.

Will Save for both of you DC 15 or fall asleep (though i'm assuming Kailin is actually immune to sleep effects?)

I'd like to know the rsults before I use my actions.

Male Half-Elf

Kailin is indeed immune to sleep effects. Sunahl however...

Will Save:
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Whoo, 15 on the dot.

Sunahl looks drowsy, closing his eyes a bit, but then shakes his head, resisting the magic. Kailin seems unaffected however, and simply steadies the snake.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 3 ::

Ritti frowns disappointedly as the two shrug off the spell. "Now that's unfortunate…"

Seeing the ready stance of her two opponents, the lithe halfling moves gracefully out into the center of the arena, stopping near the middle with her blade held out.

Once again she gives her two-fingered 'come here' gesture, "Fine…. let's do this, then."

Arbiter:
Continue Dance
Move to E.08
Ready to Vanish as soon as someone tries to attack her

Ritti moves to E.08

Team Kailin is up!

Male Half-Elf

...Obstructing charge lanes, aren't you? -_-
.
:: Round 3 ::

With the halfling made more obvious, Kailin and Sunahl both move out to the center of the arena as well.

"No longer hiding?" Sunahl teases, with a smirk and a twitch of his tail. Kailin says nothing, simply holding his blade at the ready.

Arbiter:
Same as before, readied actions to attack if Ritti comes in range, after they both make their moves to their new positions.

Sunahl moves to E13, Kailin moves to F14, and Ritti is up again! This is slow going at the moment :P

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 4 ::

The halfling shrugs, "Who can say? I sure as hell won't let you two get a free run at me if I can help it." She lifts what looks like a pinch of butter from her spell pouch as she retreats behind a pillar, squishing it between her fingers with a few strange words. A sheen springs into existence on her skin… from head to toe.

Spellcraft DC 16:
Grease on herself

"I will say, though, that at two to one, you boys may have to put out some effort here. As my instructor used to say, 'Let's cut the foreplay, boyos, and make a move'."

Arbiter:
Drop Dance
Move to C.07
Cast Grease

Casts spell, move to C.07.

Team Kailin is up!

ROLG THE RED

I can't help myself...

Ritti shouts out a jab from behind her pillar, "Now I usually got nothing but respect for a man who lets his snake do all the talking... this, however, is a little too literal and disturbing for my tastes."

Male Half-Elf

:: Round 4 ::

Spellcraft:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

At the first taunt, Kailin does actually respond. "From the one who keeps dancing around the battlefield rather than face her opponent, that's an interesting criticism," he mumbles.

Gotta say, Sunahl's finding Ritti's humor much funnier than I would have expected. He's generally pretty impassive, but for some reason... XD

At the second, Kailin rolls his eyes, while Sunahl stifles laughter, though it turns full after only a second. Kailin glares at him, and the snake quiets down and starts moving, nodding his head towards the half-elf with a 'Yes, alright,' type of response, though he still has a smile on his face.

The expression disappears however, as he approaches the pillar and bares his fangs, before darting his head around the pillar to strike at Ritti, while Kailin moves up behind him.

Sunahl moves to E9, and makes a bite, which I'm pretty positive you've got cover against. Kailin moves up to F8.

Arbiter:
Sunahl's Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Grab: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Constrict: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Also, Kailin is readying an action to attack if Ritti comes within range.

Ha! Bite is at 6 to hit, so I'm pretty sure that's a no go. Ritti's up.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 5 ::

"Now we're getting somewhere," she replies as she dives around the pillar and inside the snake's reach, blade flicking out in a testing strike.

-----

Arbiter:
Tumble to D.09 (clockwise around pillar)
-- Acro 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Defensively attack Sudahl

Rolls:
Scimitar 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
---> Damage 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Tumble to D.09, Acro 27 vs Sudahl's CMD to avoid AoO's. Then attack defensively.
Attack 11, Damage 7

Kailin/Sunahl's up.

Male Half-Elf

No hit.
.
::Round 5::

"About time," Kailin mutters, and moves around Sunahl and Ritti, while the eidolon gets into favorable position. As they surround her from both sides, the two lash out at her.

Kailin moves to C10 (avoiding Ritti's threatened squares: Starting at F8 then F9>F10>E11>D11>C10). Readied action for when Sunahl starts flanking.
.
Sunahl 5-foot steps to E8, triggering Kailin's attack, and full attacks on his own. Also, I think he can take his tail slap before the bite? The restriction on making attacks from highest to lowest is only in regards to BAB iteratives? That's my understanding at least.

Arbiter:
Kailin's Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Sunahl's Tail Slap: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Sunahl's Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Grab: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Constrict: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Kailin's Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Well, Sunahl's attacks were quite bad, however, Kailin threatened a crit with 26 to hit (not Nat 20 though, so if your AC is higher than that it's a miss).
.
9 Damage if 26 hits, and if 24 would confirm the crit, then another 7 damage, for 16.
.
Ritti is up then.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 6 ::

As blood stains the sand, Ritti barely remains on her feet. In a surprise move, she continues her defensive stance, dodging around Kailin. When she slides to a stop, feet faltering, Kailin stands directly between herself and Sudahl.

"I'm trying to come up with some quip about double-teaming a girl, but for some reason, my head's spinning…"

A small piece of what looks like her liver falls from her mouth amid the spray of blood as she speaks.

Nothing hidden. Full defensive, then move to B.11 (that should give you a couple of AoO's for movement, but damn i gotta get rid of that flank for you).

You're up. :(

ROLG THE RED

Didnt Kailin's get a Crit on his first attack against Rolg, too? Geez... I'm gonna have to remember that!

Male Half-Elf

Did he? I at least recall his last attack was just a tiny bit short of being a crit.
.
Ha, just checked, he did get a crit on Rolg too as his first strike (Nat 20 that time).
.
So, full defense then move as normal, provoking? Do you want to try an Acrobatics to get past them, instead? (Also with full defense that is.)

ROLG THE RED

Not enough movement.

Male Half-Elf

Okay then. Well, I guess they'll both take AoO's then. Will they still have the flanking bonus from where you start out?

Arbiter:
Kailin's Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sunahl's Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Grab: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Constrict: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

22 on Kailin's attack, or 20 if the flanking doesn't count (he's rolling well in this fight). Sunahl, on the other hand, crit fails.
.
If Kailin's attack hit, 6 damage. Will finish up my turn in case Ritti's not down yet, so...
.
::Round 6::

Kailin turns to follow the halfling as she goes around him. "I think we can fix that," he says in response to her statement, then bolts around the pillar, swinging himself around to Ritti's other side. "Shouldn't take more than another good knock to it."

As he reappears behind Ritti, Sunahl surges forward and lashes out with his jaws once again.

Kailin withdraws around the pillar, ending in A12, before Sunahl charges to C10, making a bite (and hopefully not failing like he has on most of his other attacks).

Arbiter:
Sunahl's Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 I assume this gets the Charge bonus?
Constrict: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Better. 25 to hit, though only for 3 damage. He'll get a grab attempt but at 14 I'd expect that misses.
.
Ritti's up (if she's not down yet).

ROLG THE RED

Sheesh. Kailin's attack failed, but the bite gets her and drops her.
.
Well played, Kailin. Was never able to create an opening on ya.

Good game. :)

Male Half-Elf

Less well played, more wow, good rolls, on attacks. First attack being a crit that drops you to less than 3 health seems... not all that skillful.
.
But yes indeed, good game. Ritti sure had them running all over the place to keep up with her.

As Ritti drops to the ground, Sunahl and Kailin both take a step back. Sunahl moves by her first. "I'll look forward to your banter next time we face each other," he says, before heading over towards the entrance.

Kailin moves up next, raising the katana for a finishing blow. "Not bad, hafling. 'Til next time." With that, he brings the sword down with full force.

After a sweep to the side to free it of most of the blood, he slides it into its scabbard, and bows his head to her, before following Sunahl back out of the Arena.

It occurs to me that this is the first time Sunahl has made it out of the arena alive, actually. Then again, it's also only the second time Kailin's made it out alive too, so... hmm. Anywho, fun fight!

I'd say it was well-played. Could I have had a much better chance had the dice not fallen in your favor? Yes. But even had that happened, your consistent use of group positioning and readied actions (to strike when Ritti became visible or struck, i'm assuming) meant Ritti was going to eat a couple of attacks for every one of hers. And since she has no way of skirmishing effectively, it means any round she ends adjacent to one or both of your characters is a round she eats multiple incoming attacks. Basically, because you played smart, I had to hope to one-shot Kailin to walk out alive.. or at least hope you had a run of bad rolls. Which clearly wasn't happening.

So, yah... well-played. :D

Male Half-Elf

Hmm... fair enough. And yes, there were a number of readied actions to attack, this is true :P
